The English (short series) was the best thing I streamed recently.

I also really enjoyed Winning Time and Yellowstone/1886,

Best movie was obviously Maverick

I think this is probably the strongest year in a while for blockbuster crowdpleasers at the Oscars.

Top Gun and Avatar are both shoe-ins for Best Picture nominations, and I think both actually have a legitimate shot at contending. (Probably more so for Top Gun.)

spyderman, why not try sticking to the point of the thread and submitting a list of all of your top movies and shows from 2022 in one post instead of shotgunning them individually across many.
easy my friend.. It's comments such as this that could get you erased here. The thread's title is "Your top movies/series of 2020"..

I didn't watch very many movies from this year's crop, so my top 4 in order were Maverick, Thor, Dr. Strange, and Disenchanted by default.

But wow, there were a ton of really great streaming series this year. My top 10 list in order:

1. Severance
2. Better Call Saul final season
3. For All Mankind season 3
4. Dead To Me final season
5. Ozark final season
6. WeCrashed
7. Survivor 43 (best season since Cochran's seasons)
8. House of the Dragon
9. Barry season 3
10. Mythic Quest season 3

I enjoyed all of those immensely. I also watched all of Moon Knight and Obi Wan. I can't rank those anywhere but tied for dead last. Dreadful.

You need to add "The Stranger" to your list. Netflix movie that came out in October starting Joel Edgerton and Sean Harris. Top 5 movie of the year for me. It's a suspense thriller about an operation to catch a suspected child abductor. Sean Harris is amazing as the suspect.

Best made-for-television shows I watched this year:

1) 1883
2) The Bear
3) Ozark
4) The Offer
5) Derry Girls
6) Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
7) The Gilded Age

If I had an honorable mention, it would be Tulsa King, which only aired a few episodes this year. And Yellowstone gets one too, because while some scoff at the quality, the setting and story are ambitious and focused on a world that is typically ignored in most entertainment.

Watched this for the first time this weekend. Agree, good movie. Loved the acting and directing, made it a tangible uncomfortable experience, perfectly executed.

Was debating between watching Prey or Vengeance and was hoping to see either listed here.
Probably will choose something else, i guess.

Have not watched Vengeance, but Prey was surprisingly a damn good one. Forgot to include it in my list.

What are you using to track your TV shows? I've been looking for something like Letterboxd but for TV

Was asked the same thing on page one…

Quote:

The TV template is one I made and have been using personally for the last few years (since there's not a Letterboxd equivalent that I know of). I just download the poster after each season and add it to the grid. It's excessive, yes, but also a fun little project I enjoy.

But yeah, I really wish Letterboxd or someone else would step up and do a TV seasons ranking platform. Feels like there'd definitely be an audience/user base for it.

Page 2 before people remember Severence? I haven't watched as much as some of you (no judging!), but it was the best TV series of the year that I saw. A slow burner till the end for sure, but very fresh, quirky, and well-executed.

Movie-wise, there were three incredible blockbusters (Batman, TG:M, and Avatar), two of them all-timers (Batman and TG:M), IMO. For those two or three alone, 2022 was super memorable for me, blockbuster-wise. But yeah, outside of the blockbusters, it was a really lackluster year, Oscar-wise and other. A lot of that is the final effects of Covid, and next year is thankfully looking way better in that regard.

As for TV, I honestly thought this was one of the best TV years ever, just chock full of amazing shows, so much so that I had real trouble keeping up. I've never come close to watching this much great TV in a single year, and I could not have been more satisfied.
this was my takeaway from your list. in many other years, any of those top 5 tv shows could have been the year's top show and any of the top 20 could've been top 5 most years. just an insane amount of quality tv content this year.

I tried to rank mine based on my pure enjoyment; not necessarily what I thought was "the best". I didn't get out to see many films this year as usual. But I also watched way too much tv. Oh well... cheap entertainment.

Glad to see it mentioned a bit more on page 2, but I think some folks on this thread should check out The Bear.

Sorry to bump this one but I always like jumping into this thread once I feel like I've caught up and am at a place where I can list my stuff.

My 2022 Movie Rankings:

Still missing quite a bit including The Fabelmans, TAR, Wakanda Forever, etc. but hopefully I can catch up on that early this year while new releases are still pretty slow. Feel very good about my Top 10, but the 11-20 was pretty tough as I have all those rated pretty close.

My 2022 TV Rankings:

Waaaaay behind on TV this year. Haven't seen a ton of stuff that I hope to get to at some point. Ozark and Westworld were my bottom two this year, but I don't consider any of these shows bad. I don't tend to stick around with any tv that I don't like. I'm like halfway through Andor and can already tell it will be a Top 5-10 show.
