How long do you want to ignore this user?

I know this is still over 6 months away, however, I am doing some planning since I have never been. I figured this might be the best place to ask. If not, please let me know. In all my TexAgs lurking days, I cannot remember seeing a thread about SDCC.

I have never been. I have tried for a few years now. I was able to get tickets for this year's SDCC for Thursday and Friday. The Saturday tickets had already sold out, and I didn't want to stick around for Sunday.

I wanted to see if there was anyone else from here that might be going, or if you have gone in the past what should i know. Like where is the best places to stay, any tips or suggestions. What should I expect or just anything that might be helpful.

If you are going, maybe we can meet up for some drinks.

I am planning on heading there that Monday and till Saturday. So, I'll have some time to do non-SDCC stuff. Definitely plan on going to the beach and probably check out the zoo.

Never been to SDCC but get a hotel pretty much anywhere you can, rooms will sell out I'm sure. Last time I was in SD we stayed at the Marriott next to the ballpark. Lots of places you can walk to from there.

I'm probably the wrong person to ask, and don't mean to dampen your enthusiasm, but I've been twice before (in 2006 and 2016), and I'll never go back again unless I happen to be part of a panel, or something or have VIP access. It's just too many damn people for my liking (like worse than any theme park on their busiest day), you walk everywhere, and it's so insanely hot.

That said, I went mainly for work, as a networking thing, so we primarily just did the meet-and-greets, which are mostly pretty lame unless, again, you have VIP access to the exclusive parties. I only went to one panel in 2006 and it was something a friend drug me to that was half empty and I don't even remember what it was. But I imagine if you get to go to some cool panels, and don't have to wait in line for hours on end, you'll have a different experience than I did, and a pretty good time. Also, the massive main floor with all the booths is really cool, but gets old after an hour or so, and then all you want to do is sit, yet there isn't a single chair in site.

As for hotels, I think we stayed in a Hilton downtown? Whatever it was, it was nice and within walking distance of the convention center. But we booked it way in advance, so I would definitely get that locked down ASAP. Though, honestly, even though I'm in relatively good shape, it was so hot that I was dripping sweat by the time we walked the 12+ blocks or whatever it was, from the hotel to the convention center, and would have honestly rather stayed further away and just Ubered to and from.
