If every song by Rush is terrible should they still be considered a great band?

I don't think U2 is anyone's favorite band. They're just told to like them and they do.

Same can be said for the eagles. Whose favorite band is the eagles? No one's. But a lot of people bought their albums.

So I used to really like U2 back in the 90's...

But before carplay iphones would default to itunes when plugged in. I didn't use itunes so the only album I had was that U2 one Apple forced on everyone. So each time I plugged in my phone to a newish car this showed up on the display.

Just what you want showing when picking up the boss and some clients in the rental car.

Grew up listening to Pride, Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year's Day, Mysterious Ways, One, Until the End of the World, etc., etc., etc...Great music and the Christian/spiritual undertones hooked me. Still love their music.

Wow, never made it past So This Is Love? on Fair Warning, I guess? Ice Cream Man is a masterpiece by comparison to Sunday Afternoon In the Park and One Foot Out the Door.

How can you hate a song named Girl where they snuck "tit tit tit tit tit tit tit tit" into the lyrics without even George Martin realizing what they were singing?

I'm sure this has been done before, but oh well.

The Who was a great band with legendary, awesome songs. Quintessential rock and roll.

But wtf is Pinball Wizard? I don't care if it's a metaphor or has some deep symbolic meaning. It's a horrible song.
Part of a great rock opera Tommy. Listen to the whole thing and you will get it.

Ann Margaret, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Jack Nicholson were all in it. Roger Daltrey playing the lead (Tommy). It was overall a weird movie at the time, probably weirder now? But as HTown said, in context, Pinball Wizard fits with the story as a whole. I saw the Broadway play, was short lived, but I thought it was fantastic.

Watched parts of it a few week ago. I had never seen it. It was odd.

What's interesting is there a quite a few songs listed here that appear on that artists greatest hits albums. So it being "terrible" is highly subjective in those cases.

Fair Warning is genius, sorry. I'd be very happy to listen to that album from start to finish at maximum volume this very instant. I invite you to reconsider One Foot's exit solo by EVH one more time.

Yep, and to make matters worse was some idiot decided to make it the first single from the album, instead of She's the Woman.

Going back to their legit days as a band, before batting around the order of singers and bringing Roth back, I'll offer up this one as a terrible song, even if it is a Linda Ronstadt cover (the fact they covered one of her songs is the first problem).

Agree on the Starship song, that one and its video was some of the worst of the 80s but Pinball Wizard is a classic. Love that song.

I don't consider Styx a great band. Good band with a lot of songs I like, big part of my childhood, but this has to be included in this thread. I remember thinking this was a great song when it came out, but I was like 9.
