Saw him about 4 times with the best concert when he played with John McLaughlin. Both just played and that was when you brought out the good stuff.

Also saw him with ZZ Top last fall.

He's a legend.

Billy Gibbons said that when he was in The Moving Sidewalks and touring with Hendrix, Jimi came knocking on his hotel room door and said "hey, come listen to this new Jeff Beck record with me and let's see if we can figure what he is doing!"

Eric Johnson said in an interview with Rick Beato that he used to try to figure out what Jeff Beck was doing as a young player. Major influence on Eric along with Jimi and a few others.

Former co-worker went to a lot of shows. Big shows of people you would hear on the radio. Dark underground stuff you never heard on the radio. Lots of King's X shows. All sorts of stuff.

He said the best show he ever saw was the Beck/SRV tour. Blew him away.

This sucks. He had a lot more to give. You wouldn't believe he was in his 70's based on what we saw on stage last fall.

Great musician. Also the inspiration for Christopher Guest's Spinal Tap guitar player "it goes to 11"

Heaven's now got EVH, Jeff Beck, Jack Bruce on bass and Ginger baker on drums. Could even have Bowie on vocals.

Sad. Always enjoyed Jeff Beck's work.

If it were possible to wear out a CD, I would have of my copy of Blow by Blow. And later, Wired.

I was only a casual fan, but still appreciated his obvious and immense talent.

Yesterday before I heard the news I got my late '80s Strat Plus out for the first time in a while. I was telling my wife that my dad bought it (used) and gave it to me for a graduation present in '91. I mentioned to her that it was somewhat collectable because it had this rare weird split nut that was favored by a "famous guitar player" (the only Beck she knows sang "I'm A Loser"). The split Wilkinson nut is shown in the OP pic.

Bit of Beck trivia.

JB was fired from the Yardbirds prior to a show in Corpus Christi.

Very true. It is interesting that some artists are highly respected by musicians but not the public much.

I have heard of beck, but cant place anything of his that i know of offhand.

I've seen him make cameos now and then, but he was never doing anything that showed off any amazing skill or innovation. I'll have to check him out better.

Radiohead, eurythmics, come to mind. I know they are big acts, but not nearly as big as their rep inside the industry.

Two names that always seem to come up when talking to musicians about their favorite bands are Thin Lizzy and The Velvet Underground.
