He's hit or miss. He had a lot of great songs in the 70s and Ziggy Stardust is one of the greatest albums of all time; one of the few I'd call perfect. He also made a lot of crap.

I don't disagree with this and I like Bowie and he was a major trendsetter, he's just not the greatest, IMO.

I think Bowie was at his best as an actor in Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. Love that movie. Bowie's music is hit or miss for me.

Y'all need to take some time and go through his catalog. I did that about 8 years ago and he quickly became my favorite artist of all time. There is great music on even some of his lesser-regarded 80's and 90's albums.

His final album is all world.

Fair enough. My tastes are probably very different from the majority on here but maybe not all that much. Marvin Gaye is probably my favorite of all time, maybe Kanye.

I've said this here before but back when Harry Styles was going through his 'controversial' cross dressing phase, I wanted to teach him about Bowie. DB did all of that 50 years ago with so much more style and panache.

He's like Bob Dylan to me. There are a few of his songs I like listening to. But there are a TON of artists that were either directly influenced by him or did covers of his songs that I REALLY like listening to.

And I 1000% agree that both are two of the most important artists of modern music.

Bowie is one of those guys that I like and respect without actually wanting to listen to their music very often. I'd also put Springsteen and Dylan in that camp.

I respect his influence and love a small portion of his library but I'm much more a fan of hard guitar rock than his proggy poppy material.

Coincidentally I played some Bowie stuff for my very young kids tonight and they were digging it. 3yo asked at one point, "Is that the Goblin King?"

Went to his Glass Spiders tour in '87 at Summit. It was great! Guy knows how to put on a theatric show with his music.
