Sure, we've all seen how far de-aging tech has come (both visually and audibly), along with special effects in general. But it never occurred to me that we'd eventually see something similar for language, to get from an R to a PG-13 rating, and also from English to whatever other language (or vice versa). There's still a *slight* uncanny valley vibe here, but it's pretty insane regardless, and feels like only a couple years away (if that) from being perfected...

How long until you can just tell an AI to make a 2 hr movie on demand? Or make a sequel to a movie that you always wanted?

This is really neat but it is very clear the director intentionally had a shoe string budget and laid in all the f bombs

Why?

He owns the company with this ai tech

But still incredible

My guess is that it will remain cheaper, at least for the foreseeable future, to cast actual actors, and then adjust their appearance/vocals using AI/CGI when necessary, than it will be to create/animate fully-computer-generated, photo-realistic "humans."

But who knows?

I'm also not sure audiences will even *want* fully-computer-generated, photo-realistic characters (if not a traditional, "animated" movie). If only because there's still, and probably always will be, something tangible about an actual, living, breathing human being giving a performance, never mind our obsession with the celebrity culture that comes along with all that. In other words, my guess is the standard will eventually be more Avatar-style, be it actors giving motion capture performances - or - actors giving real, in-camera performances who then have their performances altered like the above, de-aged, or whatever, when needed.

I feel bad for future generations who will never know the sound of the completely mismatched overdub.

It should sound like Saturday Kung-Fu theater if they want me to believe.

If it is done by A.I. it very well may blow the CGI animated pricing structure completely out of the water. Give a few instructions or upload a script and let it do its thing. No need to pay animators or programmers etc. Could run several dozen renditions and pick and choose how to put them together and edit them for the best product.

This. Generative AI is moving towards DALL-E and ChatGPT. It'll probably end up somewhere like the Star Trek holodeck where you just tell the computer what you want and then tell it what to change until you're happy.

You're spot on. I really can't stand CGI for backgrounds.

Maybe i'm just a dinosaur though.

Who knows what the younger generations will think though.

This is a good point and I go back and forth on it. I think younger generations may never care (if they even get a chance to know the difference once it is common), but for me at least there are times that it is great to say "Wow, never new TCTTS could look like that/act that well/etc". Then there are times I say "For F's sake, TCTTS can't even pretend to know the top of a basketball from the bottom, can't we get some CGI for that scene?"

Personally, I like getting as "real" as possible on a game, but can live with some level of live acting with computer enhancement to make it look real.

Can you think of a better plot of Star Wars 1?

Quote:

It's possible to come up with different plot ideas for Star Wars Episode 1, but it ultimately depends on the direction the storyteller wants to take the franchise. Some potential plot ideas could include:

  • Focusing more on the political intrigue and power struggles within the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order, rather than the trade dispute and Jedi-Sith conflict.
  • Developing the backstory of the Sith and their history with the Jedi in more depth.
  • Exploring the relationships and dynamics between the main characters, such as Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padm Amidala, in greater detail.
  • Expanding on the concept of the Force and the Jedi's connection to it.

Ultimately, the most important aspect of any plot is that it is engaging, well-written, and true to the spirit of the Star Wars franchise.
Let's go with the first bullet point. What scenes might be added to the movie to do that?

Quote:

If the focus of Star Wars Episode 1 were to shift more towards the political intrigue and power struggles within the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order, some potential scenes that could be added to the movie include:

  • Opening with a scene of a meeting of the Galactic Senate, where various representatives from different planets are discussing the Trade Federation's blockade of the planet Naboo.
  • Showing more of the Jedi Council's discussions and debates over how to handle the crisis, with different members proposing different courses of action.
  • Including a subplot about a group of Jedi who are working to overthrow the corrupt elements within the Jedi Order and the Republic.
  • Adding a scene where Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi are sent on a secret mission to infiltrate the Trade Federation's stronghold on Naboo, and gather intelligence on their plans.
  • Including more scenes of Padm Amidala, the Queen of Naboo, interacting with other leaders of the Republic and trying to rally support for her planet.
  • Adding a final confrontation between the Jedi and the corrupt officials of the Republic, which sets up the conflict for the rest of the prequel trilogy.

It's important to note that these are just some possibilities and the final product would depend on the writer's vision and how well it flows with the existing story.

Or, there just wouldn't be "movies" as we know them, eventually. Movies and shows might transition to personalized creations where you ask for something and get a movie spit out just for you instead of trying on someone to create one. If you could generate an entire 90+ minute movie with basic prompts, why release it in a theatre or stream it instead of licensing the technology and letting people have completely unique creations? Instead of Netflix needing to maintain the infrastructure and catalogue to support the tastes of hundreds of millions of viewers, they could just operate a subscription service for movie generation and let people create their own entertainment.

While I definitely think this will eventually be a thing, I'm not so sure the average viewer will want to do it on a regular basis, if only because it requires more of the viewer than the current model does now. The beauty of streaming as it currently exists is that it allows *just enough* participation by the viewer to curate, and choose from existing options, without have to think of random ingredients they want to see mixed together. That's almost too much specificity required, and honestly sounds like more mental work than I'd personally want to give.

The thing is, most people don't know what they want until they see it. Sure, they know they're in the mood for, say, a true crime drama, some of sci-fi, or a romantic comedy, or whatever, but most people don't want to put forth much effort beyond that. They want selection, but they don't want to have to define the parameters of a story. They want the filmmakers to do that part, thus retaining as much of a sense of discovery about what they're watching as possible.

I don't think you are wrong, but I do think the amount of people that start creating films with this technology will skyrocket. Just to compare to photography, I view the current streaming services as basically what magazines were to photography. You had an industry of professionals that would allow you access to their works with a monthly subscription model.

With the invention of the internet and the smart phone/social media combo, magazines became an antiquated form to show off photography. You had a dramatic increase in the number of casual photographers, models/influencers, etc. as a result.

Similarly, I can see this AI technology eventually being used by a new type of influencer to share films they create and distribute directly to their followers.
