Get ready for 40 Marvel movies a year.
Or, there just wouldn't be "movies" as we know them, eventually. Movies and shows might transition to personalized creations where you ask for something and get a movie spit out just for you instead of trying on someone to create one. If you could generate an entire 90+ minute movie with basic prompts, why release it in a theatre or stream it instead of licensing the technology and letting people have completely unique creations? Instead of Netflix needing to maintain the infrastructure and catalogue to support the tastes of hundreds of millions of viewers, they could just operate a subscription service for movie generation and let people create their own entertainment.
While I definitely think this will eventually be a thing, I'm not so sure the average viewer will want to do it on a regular basis, if only because it requires more of the viewer than the current model does now. The beauty of streaming as it currently exists is that it allows *just enough* participation by the viewer to
curate, and choose from
existing options, without have to think of random ingredients they want to see mixed together. That's almost too much specificity required, and honestly sounds like more mental work than I'd personally want to give.
The thing is, most people don't know what they want until they see it. Sure, they know they're in the mood for, say, a true crime drama, some of sci-fi, or a romantic comedy, or whatever, but most people don't want to put forth much effort beyond that. They want selection, but they don't want to have to define the parameters of a story. They want the
filmmakers to do that part, thus retaining as much of a sense of discovery about what they're watching as possible.
