Scrubs had a great finale.
I get it why some series end with a death or a tragedy or a "it didn't work out", but as I get older, I find that what I really want is the idea that my favorite characters wind up happy and joyful and together. The Scrubs finale works on a lot of levels, especially letting the cast members share their emotions for one another in the future montage.

I agree with this so much. I'll take happy endings all day over depressing stuff.

I liked the Lost finale, but I get it wasn't for everyone. I also liked BCS, though it doesn't have that nostalgia feel now that some others do. Guess that says something.
Cheers, Mash, Newhart, and one not mentioned, The Good Place.
Outside of Newhart, which was just an amazing callback, the other three managed to have a large piece of nostalgia and resolution.while staying true to the show's feel.

Seinfeld has to be worst ending, they end up in a jail cell in BFE with no follow up?

"I was an innkeeper in this crazy little town in Vermont"
Hands down the best.

Normally I'd agree with you but I'm not sure there was event like the finally of MASH where everything was just so satisfying. We had a whole group from school together for it and half the country watched. And then it was really really good.
This. I'll give Newhart props for the best gimmicky twist ending, but MASH has the best final episode start to finish. Wrapped up every character's story arc perfectly. It can't get any more perfect. And the nationwide anticipation leading up to the broadcast and outpouring of love for the finale afterwards hasn't been equaled since.

I like the end of The Americans.
Tie it up, put it on a bow, and shipped them off.

Best finale - 12 Monkeys

Worst finale - Killing Eve

Underwhelming finale - Mr. Robot

After watching the How I Met Your Mother finale I knew I would never do a rewatch of that show.

I haven't even had the desire to rewatch.

I think one of the best series finales is New Girl. The last season was kind of hit or miss, but the flash forward with the game American Presidents was done really well.

Seinfeld finale is Citizen Kane compared to HIMYM.

Breaking Bad was the best IMO. Like the show it was virtually flawless. I actually liked BCS too. Others in the very good category are Justified, FNL and sopranos. All have been mentioned.

I have a soft spot for Longmire and liked that finale. I also liked Afterlife, but know not everyone did.

Some that disappointed or didn't hit the right note for me include Ozark and Suits.

I have no idea how many here watched it, but I thought the finale for Big Love was horrible. I can't think of another television show where the finale was so bad it kept me from wanting to watch previous episodes. I had bought ever season on DVD up until the point of the finale. We would get friends together for watch parties. We loved this show. The finale aired and I'm not sure I've watched the series since.

Longmire sucked! I was so mad they ruined their dynamic! Loved the show up til then.

I thoight Parks and Rec was good. Supernatural was bad-I just consider the penultimate episode to be the finale. Or purists would argue it ended at Season 5.

I always liked the Sopranos ending, BB, and Justified.

Honorable mention for worst: Dexter

Not sure Hulu will bring back The Orville, so if that was the series finale, I loved it.

I do want it to come back so I see how a Kaylon and human marriage works though

I said I have a soft spot for Longmire . Agree with the consummation of the Walt/Vic physical relationship wasn't ideal, but I thought it otherwise hit all the notes and I loved Walt riding off in search of the treasure to end it. If not for the Walt/Vic part, I would have had it much higher on my list.

Related note - generally, every series that consummates a romantic love interest that provided sexual/emotional tension throughout the series (which usually is what helps make it great), ruins it when they give in and have them together. It takes good writing and discipline not to do it and still make the show great. It is usually lazy or pandering to the audience to give in. I can't think of a show that was better for it and plenty that were worse for it (I'm still mad about Moonlighting getting ruined back in the day).

Moonlighting was bad. The two leads hooking up killed the sexual tension that drove the show.

It was dead after that.

Although the office had a lot of low points after Carrell left, the last few episodes were very touching. And you can't beat this (TWSS)

What made HIMYM's finale so bad isn't the mother dying, but Ted running back to Robin. If you turn it off as soon as Ted says "and that, kids, is how I met your mother" then it is actually a good, but sad, ending.

Again... the alternate ending does this exactly, and it's how I watch it. This is literally another ending provided on the DVD.

Best:
The Wire - hated that Dookie turned out the way he did, but it was an accurate representation of what happens

Band of brothers - I loved the interviews with the actual soldiers

Friday Night Lights

The Office - Dwight carried the last couple of seasons, and something was oddly satisfying having the audience at the Q&A point out to Pam about how she was kind of being a turd to Jim after all he'd sacrificed for her.

No time to Die - technically it was the ending of a series of movies but they did the end of the Craig 007 era justice

Worst:

HIMYM - the gold standard. Whenever I'm invested so far into a show but hate every minute of it but continue because I have to see it through i call it the HIMYM effect. Technically the last SEASON was awful but the finale really brought it home.

1883- see above… the perfect description of the HIMYM effect. I couldn't stand the lead in the show and the last 2 episodes of seeing an idiot teenager cosplay being an indian after being with one for a couple of weeks drove me insane. It's a show that by the end i couldn't care less what happened to the main character.

Big Love rapidly went down hill soon as Bill went public w his multiple wives. That was an odd turn the show took.

Agree with all these, especially better call Saul. Wondered why they bothered with series watching that one.

Best series finale in my mind is Six Feet Under, fantastic television.

If we're includng toons, then Justice League Unlimited is also right at the top for me. Still the best representation of Superman's power in any visual medium.

I guess people just ignore that last 9th season of Scrubs? Seems like a good strategy.

Man in the High Castle had a pretty terrible ending. Writer's wrote themselves into a corner they couldn't get out of.

Clone Wars hit me in the feels, big time. It's right up there with Breaking Bad and The Americans for me.

The Americans and Six Feet Under are the only ones that gave me the chills

In my experience, there's no such thing as luck.
