Ads based on TV nostalgia might become a Super Bowl tradition. I think it's fair to say last year's Sopranos/Chevy ad was one of the biggest winners.

What's the reason for this trend of releasing the ads online beforehand? Seems to kind of kill the specialness to me. I like seeing them live and then I can always go back and watch later.
This cultural phenomena still confuses me. Tv commercials are the last thing on the planet I want to watch.

Agreed. It was a lot more fun before they released them all before the Super Bowl. It's not really must see TV anymore

Definitely seemed like most of the commercials (especially the music in them) were geared for GenX.

The commercials were all pretty much stinkers. For some reason they almost all missed the mark. The BB one was probably the best, but seems like the shine of bring back old shows/characters has worn off.
BTW, it is completely OK to have negative opinions on the commercials. The thread is titled ***Super Bowl 2023 Commercials***. It's not ***PoSiTiVe CoMmEnTs ONLY about SB commercials allowed***.

Yeah, the whole "celebrity being ironic" thing is played out. And that was a good chunk of the ads this time. Which is why I chose the Amazon ad. It told a story, had a nice twist and a happy ending. Plus, who doesn't like dogs?
The ads were underwhelming for the most part. But honestly, I think traditional television advertising is hamstrung by the era in which we live.
There are so many things agencies can't do without causing a backlash, and very few they can. And most of what is acceptable these days isn't really funny or interesting.
They would probably deny it, but agencies are now driven by fear rather than creativity. And their ads reflect that.
