58. Probably 20 of those from the old Netflix disc-ordering days, I went through a bit of a classic movie phase. I think we tried to tackle the IMDb top 100 (though I never got to Citizen Kane or Schindler's List, for example).
I bet The Dark Knight might sneak into the 90's. Maybe Inglourious Basterds?Quote:
Would be interesting to see what would get added and dropped if they did it again today.
There's one film I can think of that tells of American stories from a diverse pov, but I don't see it on the list. Curious.Corporal Punishment said:
Real F16 material in the preamble:

AFI acknowledges its responsibility in curating these lists that has reinforced this marginality and looks forward to releasing new lists that will embrace our modern day and drive culture forward."
Puke. Can't I just enjoy the list without feeling guilty?
They're also skewed toward popular opinion. I'm curious about what the overlap between both AFI lists and the IMDB list is, but not enough to crawl through. Out of those, I'd think these would have a shot on the new list:Brian Earl Spilner said:
Out of curiosity, I looked at IMDb's top 250 to see what post-2007 movies are on there. (Minus a few tiny foreign films nobody's seen.)
The Dark Knight
Inception
Interstellar
Parasite
Django Unchained
WALL-E
Avengers: Infinity War
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse
The Dark Knight Rises
Inglourious Basterds
Coco
Joker
Avengers: Endgame
Top Gun: Maverick
Up
The Wolf of Wall Street
Green Book
Shutter Island
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Inside Out
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Prisoners
Warrior
Gran Torino
12 Years A Slave
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Gone Girl
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Hacksaw Ridge
Mad Max: Fury Road
How To Train Your Dragon
Room
Ford v Ferrari
Spotlight
Logan
Rush
The Help
Truth be told, I didn't expect there to be this many, but by the time I realized it I was halfway down the list so I figured I'd finish it.
IMDb obviously skews way more towards younger viewers, so of that list, I don't see more than maybe 5-8 making it into a new AFI Top 100. And if it there was an initiative for more diversity, you can probably guess which ones would get added.
I know you're being tongue-in-cheek, but that one wasn't exactly critically lauded even in its own timeCinco Ranch Aggie said:There's one film I can think of that tells of American stories from a diverse pov, but I don't see it on the list. Curious.Corporal Punishment said:

That would be Song of the South.

I'd also think The Departed, No Country For Old Men, and There Will Be Blood would get a look

Clearly everyone's weekend assignment should be to comprise a list of the best 100 movies they've ever seen than have a feast of flames and angry rebuttals on President's Day.
My list would include plenty of titles that would bring the classic TA "feast of flames", and probably very few of the titles on the AFI list. The Porkchop Express said:
