I would like to know what the women of the board think of Rocky IV, which wasn't nominated for best picture.

I ask b/c this came up in conversation amongst a few friends. The guys didn't think it was appealing to women. My wife doesn't care for it. Was curious if others felt differently.

My wife certainly doesn't care for it either.

My wife thinks it's boring but likes Rocky IV.

We recently watched Rocky and Rocky II. My wife didn't seem to care for either. She couldn't figure out boxing as a sport.

My wife dragged me to it and I have thanked he for it.

I walked in on my daughter watching Rocky, and I sat down and watched it with her. Turns out it was a rocky marathon and we ended up watching them all (pre Creed). She liked it (was high school aged back then).

Eventually they find out it is a life/love story more than a boxing movie

Oh yes. Rocky came out when I was a student at A&M. It was showing at that old theater at Northgate. I dragged many friends to see it with me many times.

As time goes on, I think it has become less appealing to women. Rocky is kind of a caricature, and the scene where he traps Adrian in his apartment and bangs her when she wanted to leave, while seen "romantic" in the 70s and 80s as two awkward people getting together, is probably viewed as "I think I just watched a date rape" by a lot of women in 2023

I kind of want to introduce my kids to Rocky, but doubt they can make it through the original and maybe the second one. I guess my introduction to the series was Rocky III in the theater so maybe I'll just do that. Pretty certain my wife has zero interest...I don't think she even realizes the original was considered a quality film/Oscar winner. She just sees me channel surfing and stopping on Rocky IV all the time on TV.
