Bull*****

This does not at all excite me after the crap we got from Rings of Power. I understand it's a different studio to Amazon, but I just have no faith in Hollywood to do anything else positive with this IP.

Rings of power was fine.

But who thinks it's a good idea to remake what are probably the best adaptations of any beloved story ever? (The Hobbit movies were bad, but the problem was too much, so more isn't the answer there either)

IOW, they are going to take a kernel from Tolkien's works and create new "canon".

Rings of Power was fine.

House of Dragon was boring as hell so I don't consider either one amazing.

Wheel of Time was god awful compared to those two.

Interesting. Been almost unanimous in opinions I've seen that House Of Dragon was far superior to Rings of Power. I have no opinion as I haven't seen any of these.

I would say your expectations for media have just been lowered, if you think Rings of Power was fine. Other than a couple of decent visuals, I can't think of any standard movie/TV elements I would consider fine in that show.

Love this video as a microcosm for everything wrong with that show by comparing two scenes.

If they could do a Children of Hurin movie or series (and do it right) I would be ecstatic.

After the dumpster fire that was RoP, I'm not getting my hopes up for anything though.

lol rings of power was literally just some frumpy local suburban thespians pretending to put on a weak ass misguided idea of a Tolkien adaptation

I mean, for a high dollar production of the greatest fantasy author in history, the lack of talent and vision it took to put that garbage out is absolutely STUNNING

It all comes down to "and do it right", unfortunately. You have to get a group together who look at this as a passion project, the same way Jackson did when he made the Trilogy. The timeless themes of the world Tolkien created, and the history within it, are enough to make so much great fantasy. I just don't think we are going to get this IP handed to a true fan who goes out and assembles a team of true fans.

But hey, I will be at the top of the list for 'happiest people on this forum' if they actually do that.

I'd definitely be intrigued by another adaptation of LOTR.

But I don't think that is what WB is going to do here.

What I think they're far, far more likely to do is something like Young Aragorn, or lift some unfleshed-out but epic-sounding story from the appendices like the Angmar Wars in Arnor, The Goblin Wars mentioned in The Hobbit, or take some one-off line from the setting and build a story around it, like "the cats of queen Beruthiel".

Worst case scenario would be taking inspiration from how Gandalf instigated some Hobbits to go off on adventures. Why not create a movie from that prompt? As we saw with RoP, it can't be middle-earth without Gandalf and Hobbits /s

or even simpler, you do not like a given thread go find another one.
There are a lot of posters on this board who might argue otherwise

It doesn't work. People will go onto every thread about something they don't like just to tell you they don't like it.

I've just never been able to wrap my head around the concept of watching something, deciding you don't like it, and then continuing to watch it so you can tell people how bad it is.

On a Thursday earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced that newly-installed studio leaders Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have brokered a deal to make "multiple" films based on the beloved J. R. R. Tolkien books. The projects will be developed through WB label New Line Cinema.

Freemode, a division of Embracer Group, made the adaptive rights deal for books including "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit." The pact will be billed under the name Middle-earth Enterprises.

"Following our recent acquisition of Middle-earth Enterprises, we're thrilled to embark on this new collaborative journey with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, bringing the incomparable world of J.R.R. Tolkien back to the big screen in new and exciting ways," said Lee Guinchard, CEO of Freemode. "We understand how cherished these works are and working together with our partners at New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, we plan to honor the past, look to the future, and adhere to the strongest level of quality and production values."

They really can't stand that the original trilogy was all-white, mostly faithful to the source material, and universally loved can they?

They have to subvert this to fit their Amazon canon and insert gays, transexuals, and all manner of diversity into it.

The Silmarillion is basically a Christian creation story so I'm sure they will remove any allegory as well. I can only imagine how badly they will twist the source material to remove any sort of allusion to Christianity.

You wont see many people bother to watch or comment on plain old garbage, which is most 'entertainment'

But when people spend big bucks filming literally beloved classics, its hard not to watch and hope for glimmers of something good about it. But when it's all said and done, and it was just bad, its natural that people will come around to lament such wasted opportunities.
