Releases this Thursday.

I really enjoyed the first movie, but had never seen Creed II until this weekend, and man it is so weirdly dull and sleepy. Creed himself could not have been any less compelling, and the whole thing is just really oddly paced, with such long, meditative stretches and so many silent scenes with no score where there absolutely needed to be. I get what they were going for, and it thankfully picked up the pace in the final 40 minutes, but for what was supposed to be a monumental Rocky/Drago reunion, they treated the entire affair like such a snooze fest.

That said, Jonathan Majors looks to bring a much-needed spark, Michael B. Jordan has taken the reigns as director, and so far Creed III has an impressive 90% on Rotten Tomatoes after 69 reviews. It's also the first of the franchise to be shot for and release in IMAX, which makes for even more of an event.

Really looking forward to this one...

Love the Creed movies. Great cinematography around Philly, too

Looking forward to this

Man, I loved Creed II. Hit a lot of solid notes on fatherhood and struggling for identity through relationships.

Really looking forward to this next chapter. Has anything been said about whether this is the final movie in the series or if there's more coming?

IMAX question. When we saw Anr-Man last week, we noticed that there was a slightly blurry effect on background characters and objects. I almost suspected we were seeing the 3D reel without 3D glasses but it wasn't quite so bad. I googled it when I got home and people were acting like that's just a feature of IMAX, not a bug.

To me, it almost ruined the viewing experience and has me wondering why I should bother with IMAX at all. Has anyone else ever experienced that?

I've never noticed that, Top Gun being the only recent movie I've seen in non 3d IMAX though.

It was definitely out of the ordinary. Trailers all looked like **** but that effect didn't go away once the movie started.

I dont even remember creed 2 at all and I have really been trying since seeing the trailers for creed 3 everywhere. It must have been very forgettable which sucks because i really liked the first one. I'm going to have to try and watch it again.

I recall enjoying both Creed movies (and have always loved the characters in the Rocky movies). So I rewatched Creed yesterday, and damn that movie hits on all the right emotional points. That was a really good one. The only thing I recall from Creed II was a bout between Creed and the son of Drago, and a reunion between Rocky and Drago that was not exactly welcome by the former. Will likely rewatch Creed II this week with the intent of seeing Creed III this weekend.

Jordan has said he wants to keep making more. Probably depends on how this one does financially.

I thought Creed 2 was fantastic. I thought it was better than Creed 1.

This one looks to be the new age version of Mr. T's Clubber Lang. I'm excited to watch.

Really enjoyed the movie. Saw it last night and Majors continues to dominate on screen.

Very good movie overall, what an emotional ride. Majors was incredible. Rocky was notably missed in certain scenes of this movie, but I understand why they went with this tone.

It was alright. The walk out and the location for the final fight was dumb. The actual fight got too artsy for me. If I want to see CGI I'll watch Star Wars.

Give me the Rocky fight scenes over these.

Loved it. Soundtrack was great, and you can definitely see the influence of Michael B. Jordan's affinity to anime in how the fights were shot

The final fight wasn't quite as good as the first 2's final fights, but it was so fun to watch

My only gripe: I miss this being in Philly. Didn't feel right to change cities

Kind of want to see it in IMAX now. Even in a regular theater, it felt so much more immersive than other movies

Creed II was better when it was called Rocky II. Same exact storyline.

I think you meant Rocky III. It also could be considered a loose sequel to Rocky IV.

That was solid. IMO, definitely better than II. It has a spark the last one didn't, is much better paced, and Majors is by far the best antagonist of the trilogy. Dude is just electric on screen. Really liked the daughter scenes as well, as that whole subplot was a nice touch. Saw it in IMAX, which was cool, and sporadically from the Stephen A. Smith scene until the end our audience cheered throughout, then broke into applause at the very end. Really fun to be a part of.

Worth noting that he's a Texas kid as well…

Quote:

"I grew up in the Dallas Metroplex. But I spent a lot of time in Waco and then in small towns down there with my grandma and then in Killeen and in Riesel. I'm also a military brat [Majors's father was in the Air Force]. I was born in California and moved to Texas very, very young."

Saw it this past weekend.

I liked it.

It was a bit formulaic, but they did a good job of forcing Creed back to the ring...and I really bought into the bad dude being a bad dude. They way they slowly transitioned him from old friend to bad dude was well done.

Was it the best movie ever? Nah..but a good 'Rocky' movie.

Saw it after work today. I enjoyed it as a third movie in a series. It was predictable and formulaic, but that's little different than most of the movies in this overall series. I enjoyed the scenes with the daughter, especially at the end in the ring. I thought the interaction between Creed and Anderson was well portrayed, and I thought it was well played when Creed went into Anderson's locker room after the fight. I thought that gave the entire movie a sense of realism that is missing far too often in this series, other than Rocky and Apollo building their friendship through III and IV. The ending fight lacked the umph that we've seen in other final fights in these movies, though.

I quite liked it. Agree that the final knockout missed some oomph but otherwise, very solid.

It's the Jonathan Majors of it but I can't help but compare something like this to something like Quantumania. This one feels so much more focused, well-directed, deftly edited, has a constant sense of forward momentum, fewer awkward transitions, etc. It's just remarkable - especially since it's MBJ's directorial debut.

Hmm... interesting. Not sure I like that but whatever.

One thing I liked about this one - and why I knew right away that Dame was behind the hit on Drago - was that Dame was essentially Creed 1 again. Guy with a lot of baggage comes into the game kind of out of nowhere and his rage is going to either take him to the top or destroy him. But since we like Adonis, this new Creed is a villain this time. Made for some interesting drama.

Also, therapy via training real hard and punching another man a bunch of times.

Regarding Dame....

They showed him at the table, with the guys who did the hit and they scurried off just before they hit happened...making it very obvious he'd ordered the hit. I wish they hadnt done that. I think I would have assumed it was him, but it was a little cheesy force-feeding it to the audience. It would have been better if they let it be a surprise later in the movie, and we found out when Adonis did

Finally was able to see this and it didn't really work for me. Maybe if I see it again then perhaps I'll change my mind, but as a big Rocky fan who's seen all the movies multiple times, I just didn't connect with it.

Sylvester Stallone said that this film went to a darker place than he would like for his heroes and that's true so on that aspect it's a good film but to me, it was just another boxing movie that didn't really do anything to connect the audience with "Rocky" elements.

In Creed 2, we see Adonis trying to figure how to manage his relationship with Bianca after he proposed to her and Rocky. He calls him "Unc" and doesn't know how to be without him and even asks him for advice on how to propose to Bianca. Couple this with the fact that he wasn't there for Mary Anne's funeral is too big of a hole for me to overlook. There is no way that Rocky would have 1) not been there to train Adonis or at least be by his side in the fight against Damian and 2) not been there for Mary Anne's funeral. Even if he was with his son and trying to mend their relationship, Rocky still would have found a way to be there.

Part of the Rocky mantra is that even though their life changes, they don't let go of the past but use it as a way to help them with the next fight. This film doesn't really have a flashback to any of his previous fights, it doesn't show any scene with him talking about or to Rocky, it doesn't show the usual training montage and you don't really see Adonis getting hit like we see Apollo getting hurt when he gave Rocky a title shot.

It's almost like everything before Creed III didn't exist, except for his own family.
