Got it. As a drummer I had a similar experience but I started playing in fall of '78 and had a friend who introduced me to Rush then. Hemispheres had just been released and all the 8th and 9th grade drummers were talking about it but they raved about 2112. My friend owned it and I went over to his house after school one day and listened to the whole thing twice. I was hooked,

I was like 6th chair then as a 7th grade drummer but by the start of 8th grade I was first chair passing him. My obsession with Neil Peart drove my focus to become better.

Just about everyone I knew owned Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors." Who was the comedian who joked that it was handed out for free in the suburbs? "Hotel California" was much the same; a monster smash that dominated sales and radio airplay.

ELO's "A New World Record" was also influential, combining orchestra and rock in a unique way.

The compilation album "Wanted! The Outlaws" was, along with "Red-Headed Stranger," very influential in promoting country music to a rock audience. Nashville had grown very complacent in the '70s and Waylon and Willie shook things up.

There were a couple of albums that were personally influential to me, helping fuel my interest in jazz. Maynard Ferguson's "Conquistador," with its incredible version of the theme from "Rocky," and Chuck Mangione's "Feels So Good" were both jazz-flavored instrumental pop hits.

The '70s were a time when music of all genres came together in one big melting pot. Hard to imagine now.

None of them were my personal favorites (those have already been listed) but these were definitely much talked about albums during my time in addition to many of the others here.

#1) Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction
#2) Richards Hard Rock Mix #3 (the one with YnT and Turbo Lover on it)
#3) Break-up Mix (the one with "Nah Nah Nah Hey Hey Goodbye" and "Got to Be Free" by Queen)
#4) The Blue Mix Tape. Very random. It had Cheap Trick, a few cuts off the first Bon Jovi Album (Runaway), and the theme from A-Team recorded directly from the TV.
#5) The grey, see-through mix tape. It had a bunch of songs taped directly from the radio, including "Been your Fool" by Tatoo Rodeo and some Hank Jr. songs.

Where do you rank those 3 Rush records, all-time? I've noticed with fellow Rush fans they tend to lean toward the albums from High School/Junior HS....so am I biased to say their Top 3 are Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves and Hemispheres? Or are those 3 generally considered Top 5 by most Rush fans (and I was lucky to grow up with them/buy them when they came out)?
