Hello all,

What are some movies or shows that focus on the relationship between mothers and sons, ideally from the mom's perspective? There have been many about dads/sons, moms/daughters, and now I feel like I see more dads/daughters, but not so much on the mom/son side.

My wife and I are expecting a boy and she's a little worried about what that relationship will be like.

Thanks!

There is a new movie coming out pretty soon about a black mom who takes her son from foster care. Saw the trailer last night before Creed III, but can't recall the title. Looked like a pretty good movie.

I asked him after we watched it.

Told him if he saw ghosts, he can make money

Seconded on boyhood. I now consider the movie to be more about motherhood than boyhood and I made an essay about that.

Not to criticize, but are you saying y'all want to learn parenting/relationship wisdom by watching movies?

Jojo Rabbit is probably my favorite Mother/Son relationship I've seen in a movie.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned, yet.

That's cute, but i'm sure you should be able to tell her not to worry. All boys love their moms, unless the mother is just emotionally abusive.

I think the biggest hit to the mother/son relationship happens between 18-22. I had a good friend who ran into this with her son when he left to go to A&M, and I had to explain how boys are during that time that they are transitioning into being men.

Sons tend to push away because they are looking to become more independent and completely remove the control of their parents. Fathers seem to handle this much easier than Mothers do, from my experience. I had to explain to her that, as long as she can allow him to grow up and not smother him, he will always come back to her. At 22-23, he will be more mature, will appreciate her more, and the relationship should evolve to be very healthy.
