I remember enjoying it enough to think "wasn't a waste of time" but not much else. Need to give it another run as well.
Regarding sequels I distinctly remember it ending and thinking "that's the end? Really"?

Oh, screw you! That got me all excited for a second.
God, I love Master and Commander.
it didnt do well enough at the box office to warrant a sequel from what ive read. despite the accolades critically, it only made $200-ish million over a $150million budget. i also think PotC coming out that year, and obviously the Marvel explosion a few years later, producers didnt want to waste their time on something like this.bonfarr said:
I was hoping for a sequel to M&C and with so many books in the series they had ample material. What happened, was filming this type of movie too expensive?

I'm sorry for the false hope. The series of books is voluminous though, so why don't you try them out? The movie was based on 5 of them if I recall correctly

I read they have a prequel in development but it has been in the works for a few years so no idea if it comes to fruition. The plot is supposed to focus on Aubrey's first command. Supposedly Tom Holland the Spider Man guy is under discussion for the lead. I'm not sure he is a tough enough guy to play Aubrey.

Giving it a subtitle so we'd think it was a sequel to movie we'd missed was brilliant marketing.combat wombat said:
Great movie. They left room for a sequel but never did one.
