I know it's old, but rediscovered this over the weekend and can't stop listening. Pretty damn good from beginning to end.

Great song. The live homemade tamales version I cant remember what intro they do on the fiddle but its great. What are the best B side texas country songs?

Absolutely his best album by far. Discovered them out in 2006. I listened to this album non stop for like 2 years, even while "Kiss Me In The Dark" single was out.

He's my favorite red dirt artist by far

In a just world, Texas artists like Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen, Mike Ryan and many others would be big country stars.

But I suppose staying relatively unknown is better for the fans they do have. Keeps them more accessible and less pressured to sell out to the latest Nashville craze.

Don't know why, but never liked the term red dirt music. We already called it Texas music/country or Americana.

Rollercoaster was big when it came out, we were already big fans of Randy Rogers from Like It Used To Be. I remember we played Rollercoaster non stop for the first couple days it came out.

I've tried to get into Randy Rogers, but his music doesn't hit me like it does you guys. I listened to "Rollercoaster" after this thread, and it sounds like he is rough on his voice. Like, he shouldn't be able to speak 10 years later rough. But that's a 2004 album, and he's still going, so good on ya'.

Another thing I noticed and appreciated is that he has a lower Alcohol-to-Song Title ratio and lower Iconic Texas Imagery-to-Song ratio than most of his peers. His songs seem to be about something besides drinking and Texas than most Texas Country guys.

After the first wave of Texas Country guys, (Pat, Cory, Charlie, Creager), there was a flood of anybody who could halfway play a guitar trying to make it, and most weren't very good. For every Max Stalling or Wade Bowen, there were 10 guys that sucked and couldn't write about much more than chugging lone star and hanging out in Austin.

Do you think there's a connection between those guys and the other first wave of Texas Country? I'm talking about Willie, Waylon, Jerry Jeff, Gary P Nunn, Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Billy Joe Shaver, etc. It seems like there's a clean break somewhere in the 90s between those classic outlaw country guys and the newer guys labeled Texas Country, and Robert Earl Keen was the the only thread between them.

I got to A&M in 2004 and rollercoaster was just about the only thing I listened to. Felt like Randy was speaking directly to me about life being hard, break ups, drinking too much etc. just couldn't get enough of it.

Funny story had a friend who was in Europe during my college days (2004-2008) call me and say hold on Randy Rogers is here. Sure enough she hands him the phone and he's on his honeymoon and was nice as could be.

Always had a soft spot in my heart for him after that. Dating my current gf and had him do a cameo for us one night during COVID and she thought I had hung the moon.

Love his music but once heard of him as "king of the sad song" or something similar. Clicked to me that as I've gotten older I don't connect as much with the heartbreak and sadness of music in general. Or maybe the desire in general to listen to sad songs regularly.

Anyway. Probably too much to read but love Randy and rollercoaster carried me through my years in college station.

Anyone else see Randy Rogers and his fiddle player at the meat judging reunion at the little gazebo behind Kleberg? It had to have been me, a couple of my friends and maybe 20 others. 2003/2004ish

I want to meet the beeeech that broke his heart before this album was made. First to thank her for being an inspiration for a some great songs and then give her a Falcon Punch.

Had to do refresher on the track listing. High quality indeed. Not sure if its their best, they've put out three consecutive albums that are phenomenal. Will admit I was not much of a fan until they played chilifest in 2006.

biggest connection I could think of between "Gonzo Country" and the next generation is Lloyd Maines.

That guy had his hand in so much of what we think of as "Texas Music", it's ridiculous

Which 3 albums are you talking about? His more recent albums have been ok but nothing special. The hold your beer albums have been good

I still own a red RRB Rollercoaster T shirt I owned when I lived in Phoenix. Went to a Pat Green show at the Marquis Theater in Tempe, AZ January 2006 and wore that shirt. Several people made comments like "oh man I didn't think anybody else knew who that was in Arizona"

I know, cool story bro. This show had maybe 1,000 people there. In attendance was my wife, six months before we met, drunk out of her mind coming off a breakup (her words). Said if we had met that night I would have never dated her lol
