Yet another forgettable, bland, and generic Netflix action movie. Just what we needed.

Uh so this movie absolutely whips f***in ass and I'd say it's better than the first. There are a lot of "long takes" that are pretty impressive. The fight choreography in the prison yard is awesome. Flame punches!

Currently at a 91% audience and 75% critic.

I liked the first one. Definitely will watch. Do they explain how he survived the end of the first movie?

Yeah, they do. Even if it's not the most realistic, it gets the job done.

I fell asleep during the first one, the most boring action movie with no character to care about.

This is true of literally every Netflix action "blockbuster".

Not sure why this take is apparently a hot one.

Isn't Extraction the most-watched film in Netlifx history?

Pretty much….I do remember Gal Gadot was in Red something or the other.

I enjoyed Gray Man, Jack Ryan, Without Remorse, Terminal Loost, Red Notice, Extraction, etc. but there aren't a lot of details I could tell you about each one other than that Red Notice leaned into the funny more than the others.

And that's ok.

IIRC
Extraction came out during Covid when everyone was in Netflix & there wasn't anything new coming out. Captive audience

Saw it yesterday. Really enjoyed it. Not quite as visually captivating as the original, but fleshed its characters out a bit more (for an action film). Really enjoying what looks like a solid action franchise.

I thought everyone saw Extraction. That was one of the only new action movies we got a couple of years ago that was worth a damn. Looking forward to watching this one tonight.

I don't remember the original at all. I'm surprised I didn't watch it because like the rest of the world we were streaming junkies in 2020. It is possible I watched it late at night after drinking, but nothing looks familiar in the image search.

That said we'll cue both up to watch soon.

How permanent is Hemsworth's retirement from acting supposed to be? Is this the last thing we see him in for the next few years?

I thought the action was just as good as the first one, and the story was just as forgettable.

Enjoyed it for what it is - a break from the endless Hallmark crap my wife likes to watch when she steals the remote.

Extraction 3 Coming to Netflix

Quote:

Chris Hemsworth's hit action franchise, "Extraction," is getting a third adventure. The action star and director Sam Hargrave made the announcement at Netflix's Tudum event on Saturday, following the June 16 premiere of "Extraction 2."

I was excited to open this thread and learn about another Mike Judge / Jason Bateman team up to find out how things finally worked out for the small business owner.

Very disappointed right now. Extract, not Extraction.

The first action sequence in Ex 2 is freaking unbelievable! Hemsworth is pretty amazing. I stopped watching to come post this. Now back to the movie.

This is technically a spoiler according to the strictest definition, but this all happens in the first two minutes, so it's not a plot point at all.

The movie opens by replaying his "death." Immediately afterwards, he's shown washed up on a river bank. Then, they airlift him to a hospital, he does some physical therapy, and that's that. They make no attempt to explain how his neck wound wasn't fatal or how he went from sinking to washed up on the riverbank (or how he didn't drown in the interim). So their explanation is basically "look he survived it, okay?"

That said, it's a kick ass action movie and well worth a viewing.

Do I need to watch Extraction before the sequel

or is it really not necessary to understand the second one?

I'd watch it because it's good and it will help tell the story. But here's really all you need to know...

The main character (Tyler Rake) was in the Australian Special Forces and now works as a private mercenary. He works with a group of people that get hired to do jobs but they "specialize" in getting people out of situations. First movie involved rescuing an Indian warlord's kid from a rival Bangladeshi warlord.

It's not necessary, but you learn why he's a tortured soul and why the opening of the second movie is happening. That said, none of it is complicated do you could easily intuit it even several beers in.

It's a great action flick, though, so no reason not to watch it first
