Clock is running. Better start cranking these seasons out to avoid a Stranger Things problem.

Well isn't that the same slippery slope that some are worried about with Snape and the way James/Sirius/ make fun of him compared to the mud blood comments. People are going to pass it on to actor/actress race and claim the source material is "racist"

It says he is still snape. I don't think it matters but I think it makes for some weird optics depending on how Harry describes snape.

Honestly Sirius or Lupin would have been much better options if you were just looking for the best available actor and didn't care about race.

My only thing is when the Marauders are bullying Snape it's bad optics if they're all white and he's black. Otherwise it doesn't really matter. I doubt they were trying to make a statement when casting him.

Really love the casting decisions. Glad Rowling is defending them so strongly.

Alessia Leoni will play Parvati Patil, a character of Indian descent….her background is Iranian and Afghan, but I think she will do well.

There really are significant reasons for optimism about the new cast and BIPOC Representation -

- Arabella Stanton, a Hispanic actress, as Hermione Granger, although I really wanted to see Noma Dumezweni reprise her stage role
- Paapa Essiedu as Snape, who will hopefully have a major role in the series
- have we heard about other decisions yet???

Hopefully? I know it's your schtick, but try to put forth a little more effort if you want to at least attempt to keep it fresh. You will still fail, but don't get lazy.

The point is Representation. So not necessarily, but it's really heartening to see the producers, showrunners, writers, actors (including Radcliffe and Watson), and fans embracing more modern and updated casting decisions.

The new series, for the leading roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, announced in September 2024, explicitly stated that the production is "committed to inclusive, diverse casting."

We can hope they live up to this ideal, including for "lesser" roles.

He was a fantastic Churchill in the Crown. I'd imagine that influenced this casting.

Let's also note: Rowling is an executive producer, and some of her post-book adjustments, such as support for a Black Hermione and Dumbledore's explicit queerness, should influence the show.

I don't think Redstone could keep it fresh even if he tried. That poster's creativity left the building years and years ago, now it's just low hanging fruit BIPOC trolls.
