My only complaint about BB:

I was late to the party, so I didn't start watching until just before the airing of the finale. They ran a marathon of all episodes and I recorded them to watch at some point. My wife and kids left town for the weekend and I had grand bachelor plans to go drinking with the boys, play some golf, take advantage of the freedom. I threw on the first episode Friday night after boozing and basically didn't leave the house again. It sucked me in and ruined my bachelor weekend.

I guess we all have our opinion on which shows are overrated. This was one for me. I enjoyed it just fine, but definitely not the greatest thing I've experience on TV, as some would have you believe.
This is exactly how I feel... about Succession.

I think last Succession's episode has a lost of recency bias. Great episode, but not on the Ozymandias or Red Wedding level.

Interesting you say that. I'm watching through Succssion for the first time, and am nearing the end of season 2. I don't understand why so many have claimed it is such an amazing show. It's perfectly acceptable and entertaining in parts, enough for me to continue on with it, but nothing has blown me away, yet.

From what I was told about Breaking Bad and Succession, or at least the rumblings, I was expecting a similar feeling I had when watching Season 1 of True Detective, or even some of those early seasons of GoT.

Yeah I just can't get into Succession...tried watching the first few episodes and that whole family is just too cringy to watch. Maybe that's the enjoyment you'll get out of it? Not really working for me though. Does it get better?

BB on the other hand...was hooked from first episode. I've watched the whole series twice and binged it both times. And I seem to be alone in liking the fly episode. I'm ok though if you'll aren't smart enough to get it...just kidding!!! It helps if you are...uh...flying...while watching it lol.

I watched in similar fashion. I remember going to the grocery store after 3 straight days of binging and being anxious about everything and suspicious of everyone. We slowed down a little bit after that.

I never got the hype, but to each their own. I think Mad Men is much better, and imo it's the best show of the 21st century.
You are wrong.

I tried watching Mad Men, because everyone I trust said it's a must, but I stopped in the second episode because I can never get past her…

I can't watch anything with her in it. I can't quite put my finger on it (her awful facial expressions maybe?), but Elisabeth Moss is nails on a chalkboard to me.

Mad Men is absolutely fantastic. I can't stand Elizabeth Moss either but you need to fight through it.

Nah. Look, I'm a guy who grew up loving to watch soap operas with my mom and sister during breaks or sick days or whatever. Mad Men is a souped-up soap. Its depth within characters, between characters, between characters and their environments, between characters and society, and between any given environment and greater society makes it the most cinematic show of the 21st century.

There are tons of shows from the 20th century I've yet to watch (I'm still just 24), but I'd say Twin Peaks is the only one to constantly strike me like Mad Men did.

Then The Wire is definitely not the show for you. Each to their own.

Right, I've tried watching it and didn't care to get too far. I've really liked many films roughly in the same genre, but I'll never be able to commit to a show like The Wire simply because I often have to force myself to care about many of the characters.

Part of me thinks even if I were a straight middle-aged guy with tastes roughly in line with most on this board, I'd still have Mad Men at the top of the heap.

What's the point of having separate threads then. Let's just make TexAgs one giant thread and put everything in there. My bad, you are clearly on the right track.

That'd probably be chaotic but also undoubtedly interesting, so I wouldn't mind that.

Disagree. He almost ruined the show for me. Wanted him to get whacked every single episode.

I respect this take, at the beginning Jesse Pinkman was very annoying. But as Season 4 and 5 progress I think you will see his character arc grow. It is a little redemptive, as much as one can redeem themselves in their line of work.
