Anyone still watching this show?

Can't believe I'm still in after nearly a decade….

That's weird to think the show started in 2014 - had to look that up. You must not be the only one they hooked.

I guess if nothing else it's an interesting documentary of a few guys' obsession.

Did it get any better? I gave up halfway through season 2 because the made up drama finally killed it for me.

Gotta say, though, the brothers definitely found gold on Oak Island, but not from the ground or pit. From people watching the show. Good on them.

I've been watching from the beginning. I am as interested in knowing what all happened on the island as I am in them actually finding some treasure. The history of it is fascinating. I can actually remember finding the same Reader's Digest article that they talk about and reading it as a kid. My grandmother always had a stack of Reader's Digests and when we would visit I would dig through them, mostly reading the jokes pages but occasionally reading a story. That one stuck in my head and I never forgot it.

Ditto! Ditto!

The"treasure " is secondary now to the history mystery!

I'm still a viewer since the start. Although, to be honest, I fast forward through a lot of the segments now. Lots of retreaded material.

Early in the show when they were linking stuff to Europe, etc, that was kinda interesting. But, at this point I get it. There's a link to Europe. I don't need to be hit over the head with it any longer.

Just finish the Garden Shaft and find something. I don't know where the show will go if there's not some kind of payoff there.

Don't give up because on the next episode they are going to find part of an ancient tool that may or may not lead to evidence of some room that may or may not have been part of something much bigger. They will bring in a team of experts who will suggest more exploration is needed, but this really may be the next clue they need.

(Cut to highlights of next show where something goes wrong but one of the brothers will say, "This is it!" next week on Oak Island.)

I was out on season 2.

Have they ever actually found anything of actual verifiable significance?

Spoiler alert, but no.
The ultimate cases of confirmation bias. A rumor of a pirate claiming gold was there, a local seeing a depression in the ground (on an island with sinkholes which also lends to water being under the island) thinking that had to be the spot. Rumors of wood every ten feet though it wasn't in the original account, a rock with supposed markings that no one can verify, a flooding problem that pervades the island but is somehow a maniacal plot (again, see sinkholes), and all for a hiding place that, despite hundreds of years of more modern technology can't be cracked.
And no one is asking the most basic question, how many years would it have taken them to build this if all the elaborate beach siphon stuff in particular were true? All for money they would have needed to fund their continued exploits. Why go to all that trouble?

But it is fun to think about.

I wouldn't have thought they could make a treasure-hunting show last 10 years without finding any treasure, but they've managed to pull it off.

No treasure, but plenty of:

* pieces of wood
* whole or partial horseshoes
* random bits of pottery
* old nails and fasteners
* manmade stone paths
* random "jewelry"
* 100 other pieces of metal that
they can speculate about

I'm too invested to quit watching now.

I always thought it would be funny if they did find the Ark of the Covenant when they drill a hole through it with one of those small bore exploratory holes….

I was eager to find out the results of the muon tomography but that just kind of went away without explanation.

Other than items of historical significance they really haven't found anything. Couple of old coins (one Roman) and jewelry items, but no precious jewels or gold or anything like that.

I'm kinda prone to that when it comes to TV series. Although I did bail on The Walking Dead.

Sometimes you just have to ride that dyin' horse to the finish line.

Wasn't there also like a piece of straw or something that they were convinced could only have come from the Caribbean? The way they play up every little thing and drag it out to discuss with experts is hilarious.

Found a piece of rust, so let's do hours of discussion and animation on what Romans used nails for.

Gave it up because of the production.

"OH, WHAT HAVE WE HERE!?"

<drone shot, commercial break>

"OH, WHAT HAVE WE HERE?! ANOTHER BOBBY DAZZLER!!"

"This looks like a button with a fleru de lis on it. Right here in a hole on Oak Island. The fleur de lis is French."

[NARRATOR VO: A French button??? With a fleur de lis on it?? In a hole in the ground?? On Oak Island, 3,000 miles from France???]

"Could it be….?"

But yes they have become good at getting a lot of hang time on everything they find.

They've found some interesting archeological finds that point to Europeans visiting N America much earlier than believed, but nothing definitive that is re-writing the history books.

Doubt they do it this season, but if they don't start next season by excavating the "baby blob" I might be out. If they believe the science, that's the most logical thing to do next, right?

These descriptions are spot-on, lol. Surprised there isn't an SNL skit for this already...they dig to the other side of the earth to meet another Curse Of Oak Island show.

I've been hooked since the beginning. They do chase some rabbits but have found some really interesting artifacts, and you never know. If theGarden Shaft excavation is a bust it's going to get harder and harder to keep viewers interested.

I am just hopeful that at some point they can put together a narrative history of what happened there. There is evidence of activity on the island as far back as 1000 AD (i think that is right, thinking about the well). I would love a definitive historical account of Oak Island.

After this week's episode, it seems obvious that they'll find some tantalizing iota of something when they drill down further in the Garden Shaft. Just in time for winter to shut everything down and set us up for another new season.
