I'd heard bits from Mulaney in talk show excerpts and the like, over the past year or so, of what ultimately ended up in this set, but getting the whole, expanded story - the story of Mulaney's addiction, intervention, and two months in rehab in 2020/2021 - is so damn good, and so incredibly funny. If not also sad and a bit shocking at times. At least he made it out alive, though, seems like he's in a much better place now, and is able to turn it all into one of the best standup specials I've seen in years (released on Netflix just this week)...

Wife and I watched last night and both really enjoyed it. His interaction with the young fan and the reading of the GQ article at the end had us rolling. Very happy he seems to be in a much better place. Agree it's one of the better specials I've seen in a long time.

I saw this on netflix last night, but by the time I did, it was too late to flip on because of the 1hr 20 min running time.

My wife and I both like John Mulaney and have seen him several times live. Will watch tonight!

He's one of the best at surgically crafting every line and every beat. Looking forward to watching.

We saw him live on the tour doing this set and can't wait to watch it again to relive the stories and laughs.

I saw the show live too. It was really good. Loved the bit about the space race. But it did start to drag a little during the rehab story. It just went on too long. His other material is always so good; I was ready for him to get back to it.

His post-rehab SNL monologue is one of my favorites.

The doctor Michael (no last name) bit was hilarious. Great set...so happy he's doing better and hopefully he doesn't have a relapse.

Pachino impression/bit was forced and bad, but I liked the rest of it.

I feel like 50% of this show was a bit on Seth Meyers show 2 years ago.

Either way, love his comedy, his humility, and ability to connect and laugh at himself.

Great show.

I enjoyed the Netflix special, pretty good but different than his other sets. Most of it is his rehab story/experience.

I got to see him in Dallas on tour and remember the following differences:

- he made fun of Oklahoma instead of Providence. Something about welcoming everyone from Oklahoma who came in because this was as close as big acts would ever get (though I'm pretty sure he ended up doing a concert at one of the OK casinos).
- there was more talk about the comedians at the intervention, specially Nick Kroll and Natasha Lyonne. Wonder if any of them asked him to scale that back?
- the kid he called out in Dallas was a Hs girl named Olivia, which led to a fun call out about his gf having the same name.
- he talked to someone in the crowd at our show about their rehab experience. Not really comedic, but a nice touch.
- I think I remember there being more about his divorce and new (at that time) relationship, but I could be wrong.

I know that this would keep me straight, in more ways than one.

I feel like if a comedian really wants to have a long career, they need to go off the deep end about once every decade, just to keep their routine fresh.

Watched this last night. It really seemed more like an opportunity to "get it all out in the open" than a comedy routine. But I did think the line about asking your mom if your dad's mom did a good job raising him was funny. That was really the only time I laughed, and I think John M. is pretty funny usually.

Agreed. It was like this is his making amends show.

From a much earlier special, love the story about his dad getting one black coffee at McDonald's.
