More appropriately, the director of The Proposition. The incredibly brutal and violent Aussie "western". Pretty much the look and feel of what I had when reading Blood Meridian.

This has me on incredibly excited

I still think it's unfilmable.

It's filmable. I just don't think it will be good. There's an atmosphere in that book that will be impossible to capture on film. Hummingbird mentioned The Proposition and that's probably as close as you can get.

So how do you write dialogue without punctuation? Do the actors talk staccato in run-on sentences the entire movie?

I sure think so. In my personal opinion , I think it's the best "western" since Unforgiven, but in that same vein, is very "anti western" if you know what I mean. it's pretty damn brutal/violent/dark. It's beautifully shot too if you can appreciate things like that. Guy Pierce, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston. It's a great cast

I read it years ago and remember I kinda loved it and also had a hard time getting through it. Super graphic, wasteland, heart of darkness type stuff from what I remember. If I recall its less narativelly driven than is it driven by the imagary and tone. Could be hard to pull off as a movie.

If only there were other McCarthy books made into films that could be looked at as an example.

I have read 5 or 6 of his novels and loved them but there is a distinct difference in Blood Meridian than the others when it comes to his non use of punctuation and the flow in BM is much different but thanks for the snark anyway.

I agree it can't be made into a movie and capture the emotion of the book. Most intense book I've ever read. I've reread a few books but Blood Meridian isn't one of them.

OMG, super stoked about this especially with the same director as The Proposition.

Lol. Isn't that a screenwriter's job? I'm sure they can figure out how to tell the story and allow actors to speak clearly.

The simple solution would have been having the Coen bros do it.

I'll put this one in the believe it when I see it category. This is one of those that a bunch of people have been attached to throughout the years and still has never been made.

The Coen's are too smart to try this film. BM needs to stay in our nightmares. Hillcoat struck out with The Road. I hope this falls through like it has numerous times since the late 90's.

Be prepared for…violence. And likely more real than people generally perceive for 1800s west.

I enjoyed The Road but understand it's not for everyone. I thought it was very well done and dark as hell. Excellent acting as well. If this film could be done on the same level, I'd be very happy.
