Readily available on tap in Minnesota in more places than I thought. When I want a taste of home a cold draft Shiner Bock hits the spot

I found it on tap at a little place near me here in Georgia too.

Shiner for obvious reasons appears throughout Fandango which was released in 1985. I'd be curious to know when Shiner's First onscreen appearance was.

Gilly's Beer (for Gilly's Bar) was originally just Shiner Premium in a different can (marked Gilly's).

So they were drinking Shiner in Urban Cowboy with a different label.

Spoetzl did a lot of that (same beer with specialty labels/cans for bars & events) which is why the old Spoetzl label said "Specialty Beers" on the cotton boll.

If you haven't visited their facility is pretty incredible. I visit a lot of breweries and have never seen one so clean and tidy. It's almost like a museum. The tour was worth it.

Their token system to purchase the beer on site is absolutely terrible though.
I went on the Shiner tour probably close to thirty years ago. They walked you right through the brew kettles, and you really did learn about how they made beer.

A few years later I was in Milwaukee and went on the Miller tour. They basically showed you the loading dock.

It's available at my local beer store here in rural Maryland. It's also usually the cheapest non bud/Miller six pack in the store. So win/win

On the Friends tv show there was usually a different six pack of beer on top of joey and chandlers refrigerator. Shiner bock made the cut one episode and i thought, well there goes the neighborhood.

The bock was one of the first not a lager/Pilsner beers that came out that was well balanced and refined and tasted good and was also bottled and canned and available to ship, and not a huge step to something like a Guinness stout. It bridged the gap towards darker beers and along with a few others helped kick off the beer variety from the same old big three plus knockoffs in the 90's. They also did a great job marketing it.
