I don't believe we will ever get a 4th installment of the films, but has their ever been any talk or buzz of possibly going the streaming route with a related series or limited series out of this universe? I mean remakes, reboots, offshoots, copied ideas have become so so common now, and original ideas seem fewer and far between perhaps there has been talk of something being done in the Corleone universe? I know we got "The Offer" which I enjoyed, but that obviously was about the making of the film and not within the universe itself.

Maybe a show about Vito between the 1920s and when Michael comes home to start us off in I?

Maybe a show about Vincent Corleone taking over as the new boss running the family in a world where the old mafia is dead, but ratting, rico laws, and other ethnic crime organizations are a thing?

There's more source material - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Godfather_(book_series)

The first two books were written by Mario Puzo, the others were written after his death, but with his consent apparently.

Puzo also wrote a number of other books, some Mafia related but not part of the particular Godfather story.

I've never heard a single peep of news for any additional movies or series. I'm pretty sure The Godfather is in the rare "untouchables" category, in terms of remakes, sequels, spinoffs, etc, but who knows. Maybe someday.

Speaking to what Aggie87 mentioned, though, two of my good friends and business partners *did* actually adapt Puzo's other mafia story - Omerta - for Harvey Weinstein. It was Havery's passion project he'd been trying to crack as a movie for 20 years, and my friends - a writing team - finally convinced him to do it as a series, which eventually landed Sylvester Stallone as the lead. That iteration ultimately fell apart though, and Harvey then had my friends give the movie version one more shot, which they figured out a year or so later. I remember Harvey called them to tell them it was "the greatest script he'd ever read," he was beyond elated, and said he was going to start looking for a director the very next week. That was a Thursday. We celebrated that weekend, thinking their careers were about to change forever. Then, three days later... the infamous New York Times expose on Harvey dropped, the #MeToo era began, and now Harvey is rotting in prison, as Omerta sits unmade, mired in all kinds of rights issues in the fallout.

Robert Zemeckis literally has it in his contract that the Back to the Future movies can't be remade until both he and co-writer Bob Gale are dead.

This was the long talked about (but never really put into motion) concept for GF4 in the late 90s.

At that time DeNiro woulda been a great age to reprise his role from II and there was talk of parallel stories similar to II with one telling the Vito story in the 20s and 30s, and the other story of Vincent in the 80s/90s.

The 80/90s was when the modern day Mafia really got hit hard by LE and i still think this dynamic can be tied into a modern movie/show and the Corleones.

Probably a good time to plug The Offer which is the story of how The Godfather got made by an unlikely producer (whose previous credit was creating Hogan's Heroes). I thought it was a clever way to resurrect the Godfather universe. They did an excellent job of casting well known figures and recreated iconic scenes from the movie like the Italian village and the street where Sonny beat Carlo with a trash can lid. I was disappointed that they stopped after one season but it seems to be gaining attention now.

Not in the biz, but I think the list is a lot shorter than any of us want to admit and probably not as inclusive of the kinds of movies people who have these discussions would want. I think outside of cases like Back to the Future where the creators or rights holders are specifically against it, I think subject matter and inability to translate it for modern sensibilities are the biggest deterrent for remakes.

For example, no one will remake Birth of a Nation because it's outwardly, unapologetically racist, but I could absolutely see a remake of something like Raiders of the Lost Ark or Jaws or even Shawshank (just to name a few) happening at some point. Hollywood has been doing remakes of popular films for over 100 years, and if they think it will sell, they'll make it happen.

Casablanca was adapted as a radio drama, then as a TV show in both the 50s and the 80s
A sequel to ET was made as an amusement park ride in Universal
1941 Maltese Falcon already was a remake of the 1931 version.
Josie Wales had a sequel in 1986

As a fan of The Godfather this series was a joy to watch. The writing, acting, and cast were all excellent. It was a great "behind the scenes" look at how the movie came about and was made.

Mathew Goode's portrayal of producer Bob Evans is some of the best acting that I have seen on the small screen. He stole every scene that he was in.

If you haven't tried this series…DO. You will not be disappointed.

I read once there were plans in the works for a fourth "Godfather" installment focused on Andy Garcia's character from the abominable third installment. He would have moved to South America to become a drug kingpin. He would have been modeled after Pablo Escobar, going out in a similar manner.

Then "The Sopranos" came along and up-ended the mob movie genre.
