Who was a fan of the shows from the Krofft bros? I loved HR Pufnstuff and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters when I was 4-6. Later I thought the Sleestaks from Land of the Lost were the coolest creatures on tv. The way they moved around in that creepy way was so cool.

When my kids were young I found an H.R. Pufnstuff DVD and my son liked it. One night the wife and I hired a babysitter and I handed her the DVD and told her to play it and when we got back she was incredibly freaked out by it, she played it for my son for only 30 minutes before stopping it saying it was too trippy and she didn't think he should be watching it. I have to admit they had to be on acid when they came up with their shows and characters but they were all so creepy it was awesome.

If you ever wondered why the McDonaldland characters are so freaky and weird it's because they blatantly ripped off H.R. Pufnstuff.

Your description of your childhood 4-6 years is 100% me. Loved all their trippy stuff.

When I first started my career (HR), one of my coworkers gave me the nickname 'Puff' - for 'HR Puff 'n Stuff' - and it just stuck for many years. When I changed companies, I missed it.

We used to come home from the bar and watch episodes of Banana Splits on Boomerang. It's hard to believe they did that and then decided, now let's do something really weird…

Man, I loved those shows. Especially "H.R. Pufnstuf." Just weird and fun. And Billie Hayes as Witchiepoo was a show-stealer. Hard to believe it only ran for a year, with some extra episodes and a movie.

You can have "Succession." I'll take Sid and Marty Krofft's Saturday morning lineup. LOL

You know, the Bugaloos are in the air. And everywhere.

Witchiepoo freaked me on on that broom thing she rode.

I thought those two little cop dudesCling and Clang were cool. They had cool rides!

"Pufnstuf's" Jack Wild -- who was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in "Oliver!" -- had a very sad and painful adult life.

One of those promising child actors who just couldn't make the transition.

Trippy for sure but trippy or not, the Kroffts had a winning formula on what appealed to kids because ALL of their show usually were very colorful, energetic, and whether they were good or not, had THE BEST intro songs of all that are STILL catchy.

Land of the Lost is my VERY favorite and was most people's and it got me interested in dinosaurs at a super young age. There were 3 seasons of LOTL and the first 2 are very good story wise because they had real science fiction writers that wrote for Star Trek writing the scripts and also had a linguist specialist from UCLA I think create the Pakuni language (which is what Chaka was lol) so it was very intelligent for a kid's show. It's not their fault they had a budget of like $20 for the show lol. The 3rd season the Dad left and the writing wasn't nearly as good and so it's kind of a meh season but the first 2 still really are pretty entertaining story wise.

I watched most of the Krofft shows growing up thanks to Channel 11 in Dallas and while most of them don't hold up, there is adult humor in them that probably wouldn't fly today. I remember Sigmund the Sea Monster's parents talked and acted like Archie and Edith Bunker lol and on the Bugaloos there was a henchman Rat that dressed like a Nazi and talked German lol. AND Of course on a separate note most of us at that age had a big crush on either Joy from the Bugaloos who is in the picture above or Holly from LOTL. I got to meet Will and Holly several years ago at a comic con and honestly it was the highlight of my life entertainment wise. They were so nice.

Your shows you watch as a kid will live in your memories forever and whether or not they are truly great on their own doesn't matter because to you, THEY ARE.

The Sleestaks were freaky but even little kid me realized at some point that monsters that could only move 2 mph weren't that formidable of a foe.

I wonder if they named him after H.R. Haldeman. He's a friend when things get rough.

Yeah, those shows were crazy but fun. Watched them all save The Bugaloos. Missed that one for some reason.

Mike Portnoy gave a Krofft shout-out with his Rush tribute show several years ago: Cygnus and the Sea Monsters.

I loved the Lunch/Launch sequence in the opening of Far Out Space Nuts. It made me laugh every time.

Witchiepoo terrified me!!!

Also, the series finale of Land Of The Lost was great because the intelligent talking Sleestack made an appearance.

I might have had a crush on Electrowoman and Dynagirl.

That had to be part of the inspiration for Mr. Hanky on South Park.

The only comparable modern kid show that I know of is Yo Gabba Gabba. Weird, trippy but catchy music and my son liked that show too.

Sid and Marty were hired to design and create the original puppet theatre at Six Flags over Texas back in the late 60's. Was always one of the highlights of our annual five mile journey to the theme park.

Never feared the Sleestak... they were slower than a snail.

One only had to turn in the opposite direction and walk away.

Leave them to thir "magic" control panel of colored stones/gems.

D.C. Follies was very under-appreciated Krofft greatness!

Apparently Phil Collins auditioned but was turned down for one of the leads in the Bugaloos. He helped form Genesis not long after.
