Hi All,

Good folks of Entertainment Board please help me pick a movie appropriate for a seven/eight year old?

1. Guardians of Galaxy? I heard there's a traumatic scene.
2. Flash? (want to see for Batman, not creepy Ezra Miller)
3. Barbie Movie
4. Transformers (probably boring for girls, ok for boys)
5. Elemental (I'm assuming this is woke/groomer since it's Disney/Pixar unless otherwise proven)
6. Little Mermaid (She saw this with her mom and neighbor kids and I heard it was OK/Safe)
7. Spiderman- Spiderverse

-I have a seven year old and Guardians would have been too intense for her, it's a pretty dark film.
-No idea about The Flash.
-Barbie isn't really going to be a kids movie, it could be accessible but it's been written and directed by an indie film darling so it wasn't made for a children's audience.
-No plans on seeing Transformers but I'd assume it's fine.
-Elemental is a Pixar movie but it just doesn't look entertaining to me, and there's several Pixar films that I love even as an adult. I have no plans on taking my kid just because it looks bad, doesn't look to be clever or unique, looks like they mailed it in.
-My wife took the kid to see The Little Mermaid and she said it was fine.
-Spiderman I think is ok, I don't care for the multiverse concept but a kid probably won't care. It's an entertaining movie for adults as well.

Took my 8 yo to Spider-Man and Transformers. He liked transformers more but there is a good deal of bad language. Spider-Man was too long and the multi verse concept was really confusing. I also enjoyed transformers more and he thought it was the best he has seen so far this year. Others seen were Super Mario GOTG and D&D. He is really looking forward to TMNT but that's not until August. His ranking would be :
1. Transformers
2. D&D
3. SMB
4. Spider Man
5. Gotg

Took my 7 year old to Guardians and he loved it. It's a little long though, so know what your kid's patience level is.

The Guardians of the Galaxy movie was awesome, best one. I took my 7 and 6yo and they loved it. It is long so have them bring a pillow and blanket but mine stayed awake for the whole thing. I don't remember any bad scenes

Funny how OP is more worried about a Pixar cartoon because it might be woke than taking their kid to see a franchise that features a comic book heroes and villains killing each other.

Not to mention that GotG is made by the same parent company as the woke groomer animated movie.

Is Super Mario still playing around you?

That may be an option to consider.
Otherwise, unless they are a super hero fan, Elementals.

At 7 they'll like the movie experience unless the movie goes on to long. You may also want to look for some theaters that show older movies on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning. Sometimes movies like Princess Bride or Despicable Me or something like that are shown and those are a cheap fun way to take kids to movies.

Go with a classic like Bloodsport or Commando.

Cajun- had a bad experience with Strange Worlds. It was woke and just bad. Only movie I walked out and asked for my money back on. But I am concerned about killing scenes (how graphic it is).

"Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken" looks cute. My kid is very interested in it.

Took kids to see the new transformers. 6yo boy loved it! (Like jaw on floor loved it) 9yo daughter and 12yo daughter both enjoyed and entertained also. A little more language than I expected but not a deal breaker.

Disclaimer: my kids are country bumpkins and were really jazzed by the Xd experience.

I havent seen GOTG Vol 3 but this scene is from GOTG vol 2. I think it is amazing, but I don't know if I'd say its appropriate for a 7-year-old. There is a reason they are PG-13 movies. There isnt any blood but you definitely see people dying. Granted my parents were probably too lenient and let me watch Terminator 2 when I was 5 so everyone has different comfort levels for what amount of violence is ok for their kids.

I havent watched Strange World in its entirety either, but ive seen random bits and pieces from it being on in my house. Its not a great film, but it way better than the youtube crap my kids seek out. I dont care if they see a guy hugging on a guy.

GOTG3 had a fairly gruesome scene toward the end. It's not R-level gruesome, but think Last Crusade where the guy drinks the wrong cup kind of thing
