Extra amazing is that he did both, so the franchise evolved / reinvented itself without a director switch or something like that.

He's responsible for three of the best sequels ever. (Aliens, T2, and now Way of Water.)

Still my most favorite few frames moment on screen ever. How freaking powerful was that 4 minute intro into the Future War. My 8 yr old brain melted watching it and I have been a fan ever since that crunch of the skull and the turn of the head with the red eyes.

Been borderline obsessed with the concept ever since. I mean....look at this! in '91 even!

Great movie! Too bad none of the follow ups were worth a damn, I really wanted Salvation to be good.

Funny timing.

We watched T1 this weekend. Wife and never seen before and I think I'd only watched once or twice when I was a kid. I've seen T2 at least a dozen times.

Rewatching T1 for the first time time in nearly 40 years was fun. There was nothing I didn't already know/remember, but wife was amused at how horrible Linda Hamilton was as an actress. Her acting was pretty typical for that era IMO.

Looking forward to watching T2 again soon w/her.

In my younger days of limited movie access, VHS, and much more spare time, Terminator became my most watched move. I Loved those two movies, and was excited for T3.

Then I watched T3, and while Kristanna Loken was hot, I decided that my life will be better believing the series stopped at T2, and I haven't seen any of the other movies.

Good Lord. The chase scenes. The stunts. The pyro effects. The special effects for that time. And some of the effects still today.

The acting, even.

What a ride.
That movie is amazing and I'll never forget how it made me feel as a 10-11 y/o kid. Still gives me a dose of that every time I watch it. Pure nostalgia.

Also, there's something about movies set in LA/Socal in the 80's and 90's for me. Can't explain it, but from this to Falling Down to Boyz N The Hood (could go on...)...much simpler 90's LA was a vibe.

It's nowhere near the level of the first two, but T3 is a good flick. Killer chase scene and a strong ending. Underrated movie.

I always loved The Abyss. Haven't watched in at least a decade but I need to check it out again. I loved some of the concepts in it (liquid breathable O2, what could truly be in the unexplored depths of the ocean, etc.)

One of my best memories from the theatre, hands down. First R rated movie ever, and still one of my faves for all the reasons mentioned in this thread. Just looked it up again and I was only 8 when my dad took me. Was kinda surprised to see that. By comparison, my oldest just turned 8 and she's nowhere near ready for a R rated movie. Or maybe its me who's not ready.

How many of you would let your 12 year old daughter watch Terminator one and 2?

Asking for a friend.

T2, but not the first. You see Arnold's junk, Linda Hamilton topless and 2 sex scenes.

I remember watching this in the movie theater and realizing what a huge leap forward it was for action/sci fi movie making.

When my daughter was maybe 5 or 6, she came downstairs while I was sitting on the couch watching T2. She sat with me and watched the remainder of it. Its had been years at that point since I'd seen it, and I'd forgotten about the f-bombs and other coarse language. My wife was not pleased. But that kid really got into the story, and when Arnold lowered himself into that molten metal, she was bawling as if she was watching Bambi.

That's kind of the problem. Gotta watch the first do appreciate the second.

I wish the franchise would go back to a small budget horror like the 1st one. The big budget summer blockbuster ain't happening.

When I was a kid my parents never paid attention to what movies I watched. I saw things like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street in fifth grade. For some still unknown reason my parents decided to be hard asses about seeing T2, even though at that point I was a teenager and had already seen the original. All my friends had seen it multiple times before my uncle finally took me to see it at the dollar theater. To this day I don't understand why they all of a sudden decided to care for T2. Probably something they saw on Good Morning America or some thing. After that summer, they went back to not caring.

She was soooo bad. So was Michael Beihn. Similarly, wife and I watched it during the pandemic and she could not get over the bad acting.

Arguably one of the most iconic sequences in action film history. And definitely the most iconic image for Arnold...firing up the bike in the leather jacket and shades with 'Bad to The Bone' playing:

Both are perfect movies. It's hard to put one over the other for me.

Y'all got me to watch it again. That beginning bar scene is just awesome.

I watched both back to back. T1 is still the more epic movie. Ground breaking. Arnold was the perfect terminator

Agree with this. The second one is great too, just different. The original just keeps you on the edge of your seat all movie and has a serious dark theme throughout.

Agreed, 1 is fantastic.

Just to throw it some more love...

1. Fantastic synth-y score by Brad Fiedel. Might be my favorite 80's movie score. (Outside of ET and BTTF.)
2. Police station shootout is so good.
3. Arnold looks the most intimdating he's ever looked.
4. Even though it breaks the "show, don't tell" rule of storytelling, I've always loved the minimalist approach of this movie, where most of the future stuff is only ever talked about rather than seen.
5. Might contain the most iconic scene of the 20th century.
