Another good sports documentary series from Netflix. They follow Patrick Mahomes (elite QB), Kirk Cousins (veteran QB but never considered elite) and Marcus Mariota (journeyman QB) through last season. The highlights from Mahomes are enough reason to watch but the whole series is interesting.

Mahomes is a bit too much…That's what I do….vs crediting the team. I'd rather he was more we vs me.

Cousins comes across really well

Interesting angle showing them all as Dads.

Seeing how smart these guys are makes me curious to see how the Texans new QB performs after those low test scores.

I can't say he is or isnt, but I'm sure they posture him to do that for the sake of the documentary since its about them. But I agree I also suspect his ego and self importance is probably very high in his mind.

I knew very little about Kirk Cousins before watching this but I am now a big Capt Kirk fan.

The more of Mahomes I see, the more I see a cleaner, dumber version of Kenny Powers.

Once you hear it, you can't unhear it.

At least Mahomes is aware of how silly his haircut is, I wonder if his publicity team will let him change it?

I doubt they will....or they will stall him as long as possible.

I can't really blame his wife for her shallowness, to have that kind of money at 25 and combined with the age of social media, she was bound to be a bit full of herself.

After the first episode it looked too obvious that they were playing the wife contrast to the fullest---felt like an ABC show or something..

This.

And the Vikings need a much better OL or OL coach or both.

They've known each other since 8th grade (or maybe sooner).

I mean maybe Mahomes will ditch her for some better piece, but he doesn't seem like that type of guy. Most people who've met him outside of sports say he's a genuinely nice person.

I really don't like how they use talk radio as if what they're saying matters one iota.

come on man - to claim Cousins isn't "elite" is ridiculous..

there are 32 men who can DO THAT JOB each week.

in the entire world.

he has been doing it for more than a decade, leading his team to the playoffs.

Someone who is one of the Top Ten humans IN THE ENTIRE WORLD at their profession qualifies as "elite"

Good point and I get it. Just my opinion. I say the divorce line even though I knew they have been together since junior high. The looks I've seen him give her a few times over the years is enough for me to think a divorce is highly possible.

Now that they have money, they can figure out if it's worth it.

You make a fair case for Cousins being considered "elite" but it's a bit of a specious argument. I'm not comparing him to the general population, I'm comparing him to the other starting NFL QBs. In that comparison, he's maybe top 10 but he's nowhere near top 5 (which is who I'd call elite). And I'm not sure you want to invoke playoff appearances given that even he admits that it looks bad that he has only one playoff win.

All that being said, I agree with the above poster that I didn't really know Cousins before the series but like him a lot more now. I'll be rooting for him in the future because of how he is as a husband and father, and how he handles his business.

The Texas Moo Cows signed Vince Young?
That's completely on brand and 100% possible.

Mahomes is annoying AF

Just his prepuberty voice is hard to listen to then add in the fact that he never stops talking about himself and it's helping me realize why I think he's so insuferable.

Great player and incredible athlete but cocky as hell and annoying as all get out.

I have a feeling Mahomes and his team agreed to do the series so that his wife could be seen in a better light and spruce up her image. But to be honest it only further cemented my perception of her which was that she's annoying and not nearly hot enough to have to deal with all of her antics and attitude.

I can understand why people don't like Brittany and his little brother. The scene where Patrick Sr. says "Players make plays!!" and Brittany screams "LET'S GOOOOOOO!!!" she appears to be live-streaming into her phone. So while his father is having an authentic moment, she's playing to her online audience. A lot of people don't like 'influencers', so I get it.

I didn't find Patrick too cocky or arrogant. You need some arrogance to play the position, Mariota shows that. The worst thing Mahomes says on the field is when he tells Las Vegas Raiders' Maxx Crosby he won't put up with a punch the back of the head. Crosby acknowledged it and apologized because he was going for the ball.

The series just highlights how effing ridiculous Travis Kelce and Justin Jefferson are as players.

I think Kirk Cousins and his wife Julie work very hard to achieve balance during the season. The episode where she talks about needing a day with just him every week during the season was a little telling. The other six days of the week, she's running the household and taking care of the kids. She gets a day where they remind themselves they're a team and they love each other.

It's also pretty obvious why some people like Vince Young flame out of the NFL (and why Chase Daniel and Luke McCown stick around forever as backups). The amount of time and dedication you have to commit to the mental side of the game is quite significant. The play where Cousins blanks on the tag for Y and says "Y Whatever" is telling. The tight end knows what to do because he knows everyone else's route on the play, too.

The series highlights how slim the margin for error is game to game in the NFL.

I can see how Mahomes comes off as a bit immature off the field, a pottymouth and cocky. But I also see why he's so good. Alongside his innate talent, he is extremely dedicated to his craft and is quite intelligent.

WRT to Brittany Mahomes - kind of is what it is. She's not that different from a lot of girls her age that have grown up in the social media age - only difference is she's filthy rich and her husband is the top QB in the league. So it exacerbates the "gaps".

Cousins was the biggest winner of the show. He came off as really likeable and humble with a great family.

Mariotta - the benching was tragic the day after his daughter was born but he essentially quit on the Falcons. I thought he came off the worst because of it.

Re: Mariota: I think he knew Atlanta was going with Ridder for the final four games and it coincided with an opportunity for him to spend time at home/bond with his first baby and have a surgery he was putting off. Left unsaid by Arthur Smith was there is no plan to bring him back to the Falcons in 2023, so why should he go back in and play backup? If Ridder is injured and Mariota plays, what does he accomplish? A few meaningless stats in games Atlanta already admitted they don't care about in a season they've already quit on.

Atlanta made a business decision for their future in benching Mariota, he made the best decision for himself personally and professionally in ending his season. The baby and the knee surgery were timely coincidences to clarify his priorities at the time.

Yeah I think both parties went in the direction that was best for them, but parts of the show made it seem like Mariotta just peaced out after the benching. Maybe it was just Arthur Smith's extreme vagueness in his answers while discussing it with the media.
