Should have been a parallel drama (like godfather II)

- present time: Luke struggles with loss of Han and what went wrong with Ben/kyli, Finally agrees to train rey. Same time, Kylo trains with snoke.

- past time: Follows the upbringing of Ben solo. His training. What went wrong. How he turned to snoke. The splitting up of Han and leia. Luke leaves for the island

- third act: the tin woman finds Luke's hideout. Kylo secretly goes to the island with the knights of ren for ambush attack. Kylo and Luke have an epic "real" fight. Crazy force show-off moves. Rey and knights of ren fight Somehow Rey is captured. Kylo and crew leave with Rey. Returning to snoke who is now chilling on a main ship with general Hux

Movie ends with Luke deciding it's revenge time and time to regain the "team". He raises his xwing from the water and movie ends as he jumps to light speed

I do agree having Ben Solo's fall (and Luke Skywalker's subsequent shutting himself off to the force) occur off screen is still one of the most bizarre choices in the history of Star Wars, which is saying something.

Would've been pretty gosh darn cool actually.

It's amazing how many ideas just on Texags we've gotten that would've been so much better than what a billion dollar company have

I doubt that would rank dead last (my opinion, I know there are those who claim AOTC or TPM for this lowly honor) among all the Star Wars movies had we gotten that movie.

I'm 99% that exact question was presented to Rian after he came up with the story line for TLJ.

His response?



"We will just have Finn chase a MacGuffin for ultimately pointless reasons, and then Poe can argue the entire time with a Starbucks barista."

A better idea would have been, instead of the Resistance running out of gas, Poe and Finn go on the offensive searching for the First Order fleet/getting a code to infiltrate and destroy something. You could still have a cool visual of a giant spaceship blowing up, but not be a kamikaze.

They gave that finish to the chrome trooper that they hyped up for two years, gave 3 lines to, and then killed off.

I think you could scrap the entire movie, take Rey and Kylo's part, and split Ep 9 into two movies.

And don't forget every military member of the first order has become comedic relief due to their sheer stupidity all of a sudden.

Oh and bombers....slow completely ineffective bombers that make absolutely no damn sense....like seriously, make them so stupid that, if it was real life, everyone would be questioning why anyone who designed them, who funded them, and who bought them weren't executed for war crimes.

Sure, here is what I would have done with those two:

- First Act: Finn and Poe help Leia stay one step ahead of the bad guys. They flee the planet they are on at the end of TFA, barely surviving a haste attack led by General Hux and Phasma. As they leave the planet, Leia witnesses Finn performing a "force act".

- Snoke is pressuring Hux and Phasma to find Skywalker and "the girl". Hux and Phasma make a call to bounty hunter Zorri (Kerri Russell) who assures them both... "I'll find them."

- Now safe from the bad guys, Leia confronts a confused Finn on his force powers. Fin can't explain it, but Leia seems to know the answer to her question.

- Poe rallies support from neutral planets including his former lady friend Zorri (they obviously still care for each other - and when alone, Zorri struggles with who to support). As the second act ends, Poe is heart broken, realizing Zorri is his "Qi'ra" as she turns on Poe and gives Phasma/Hux the location of skywalker. Finn arrives to stop them, but Phasma defeats him, nearly killing him before Leia force act saves his life. Poe locks eyes with Zorri as she boards the bad guy ship.

- Third act stays on the island for the big showdown. Teaser of Leia training Finn is shown as cutaways. (Rey swings a sword - CUTS TO - Finn swinging a sword, etc etc)

The bombers thing has been addressed many times, which is why I suspect you mentioned it.

Lots of things in all of Star Wars make absolutely no damn sense when looked at through earth eyes. None of the starships in these movies should fly in atmosphere as they do, and they are all depicted as if flying through atmosphere in the vacuum of space. A lot of this stems from George Lucas in the mid-1970s, who spliced together actual WWII footage as inspiration for how he wanted to depict his space battles. In that context the bombers make perfect sense. Just look at the Battle of Midway, where Devastator torpedo bombers, including one piloted by Aggie George Gay (sole survivor of his squadron), was shot out of the air with no hits on Jap shipping. Ridiculous and completely ineffective, right? Hardly. The Devastator brought the fighters down to near sea level, opening space for the Dauntless dive bombers to arrived basically unopposed to work their "miracle at Midway". Those Star Wars bombers were decimated, yes, but if I recall one did get through to release its bombs on the big ass star destroyer.

I seem to recall that in the ST (which I typically don't rewatch as I do the other trilogies) that the resistance was an off-shoot of the new Republic with basically no funding or support. They couldn't be picky about the ships they could throw at the first order.

I agree, but they're at the beginning of the movie and any time I attempt to give that movie a chance…. I'm done by the time those ****ing things start their slow ass crawl towards the first order.

This was one of the dumber plot points. How would there not be a New Republic military?

I always thought the First Order was dumb, unexplained and basically an Empire ripoff. Could have had Finn and Poe's mission be related to that - discovering where they came from and perhaps finding a way to beat them.

While we are at it go back to prequels and make Anakins heel turn be due to a jealous rage over thinking Amidila and Ben were sleeping w one another, and maybe even go so far as to give him reason to believe (wrongly) that Amidilas baby is Ben's.

Ya its a lil more adult theme but would be pretty cool.

Unfortunately the billion dollar company put someone in charge of Lucasfilm who decided the best course of action was to have no plan.
