Damn. Lumping Black Crowes in with those other folks just seems wrong.

They came up in the 90's

Yeah 1991. That was still 30 years ago!

We went to see them on a bill that also included KISS. Tommy Lee was the only one in either band that didn't disappear from the stage for a few songs. The rest clearly weren't up to doing a full show anymore.

That was the summer before my senior year of high school. I was definitely jamming a lot of those songs driving around.

I saw Oleander open for Creed the first time I saw them in concert. Our Lady Peace was the other band on that bill.

I went to that show in The Woodlands. Our Lady Peace is one of my all time favorites and who I went to see. Creed got like 5 songs in and Stapps voice gave out so they cancelled. They came back like a week later and so I got to see OLP twice. Score!

I got no shame in admitting I really like the first creed album, start to end. Senior year of high school, man there's some bangers on there.

It stops there though. Never even gave album 2 or 3 (or 4 apparently) a shot, just know the singles.

'What if' is a good kinda heavy though.

Reminds me of nickelback… yeh they have some major acc-esque singles, but they can get heavy. Side of a bullet and follow you home come to mind.

Yeah this song is one that you crank to 11 going down the interstate.

I could never get into Creed. I disliked them so much in college. At the height of their success, they were on every single radio channel they played modern rock: 92.1, 103.9, and even Mix 104.7. Add in the fact that they had multiple #1 hits back to back and you just couldn't get away from them. Sadly I couldn't help but know the lyrics because they were so overplayed. Drove me nuts

If you want to see some old bands that still get it done check out:

Iron Maiden- by far still the most impressive show and musicians in hard rock
Black Crowes- saw them on the Shake your Money Maker tour and they sounded awesome
Sammy Hagar- guy is 76 and still throws a party every show

Yes! Yes! Yes! I saw these same concerts and they are still fantastic. I hope to see Sammy at Cabo Wabo for his birthday bash one day, but I can never win his lottery tics

I'll add Metallica as well still kicking ass

I don't think anyone doesn't know they are still kicking ass lol!

Full world tours still on every album; 20th anniversary symphony show, 40th anniversary show, they show up on late night shows and Howard stern consistently still.

I got an advance copy of the album when I was managing a music store. I listened to it once and gave it away to one of my employees. I thought it sucked then and my opinion has never changed.

I have a buddy who follows Iron Maiden around the globe, literally. He's a surgeon and makes the kind of bank that affords him to do so. He has a bunch of friends from his Army days he goes with. Pretty cool.

My favorite eye roll was always to the ones that loved U2 or Metallica until they didn't. Oh they went corporate. Oh they sold out. They're too mainstream now.

Same f'ing guys playing the same songs. So dumb.

Not unlike Cube, Snoop, and Dre, at some point Bono and Hetfield realized they like their comfort and big endorsements was super easy mailbox money. More power to them.

If anything it makes me look dumb because I didn't think it was worth a damn but it went on to sell 6 million copies in the US alone.

I have a playlist that is filled with guilty pleasure Creed songs from them and other bands in that era (Staind, Chevelle, Puddle of Mudd etc.). It's just mindless nostalgic highway music to me. Most of the songs I hated at the time because you almost couldn't excape them...and there's a cheesiness factor...but they are nostalgic AF to me now, 20+ years later. I hhhated "With Arms Wide Open", but now it puts a big fat smile on my face, and kind of resonates with me as a father. (No homo)

I will be honest and admit that I really did like "My Own Prison", "Torn", and "What's This Life For"' when their first album came out. (No homo)

This just showed up on my FB feed.. man are they spying on us or what?

Only a few on the cruise line up showing up here. Creed's "one" was released as a single in dec. 1998.. This chart is July.; a testament to its staying power.
Little did they and the world know that a month after this chart, 'Higher' would be released and stay at number for 17 weeks (on two separate charts), with the album coming out in the fall and eventually going diamond.

I'm glad you posted this. I've been thinking alot the last few days about rock music...where it's been and where it is now.

This post won't be popular with the folks posting on this thread, but I think the late 90's rock music was the beginning of the end for rock. Why? I have 2 reasons. 1) Too many bands trying to sound like the good grunge bands of the early 90's, and doing a subpar job of it. I'm looking at you Silverchair, Creed,, etc. Then 2) Rap music started to have a big influence on guys in high school in the 90s, and while they obviously (for the most part) weren't going to be rappers, they would try to make rock music with rap stylings (Hey Kid R!). Most of this sucked, and forever changed the direction of old school rock. People started to think that Limp Bizket-type bands were the real deal. They weren't.

I think the last great rock album was (What's the Story) Morning Glory? Most rock music after that was average , for the most part. Even Oasis'. Save for a few exceptions like White Stripes, Weezer and of course, the mighty Foo Fighters (who are basically an early 90's band) . This is why you won't see any of the bands listed on that chart above inducted in the R&R Hall...and you're seeing more country and rap artist instead.

BTW, I love Green Day, but I can't give you late 90's guys them. They were formed in the late 80's and influenced by punk.

Wish I was wrong, but proofs in the pudding. What greatness did late 90's rock spawn?
Flame away.

I've never gotten the grunge Creed criticisms and don't think I've ever heard that aimed at Blink.

Rap certainly took over to an extent as bands mimicked what worked for Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock. That's moved into country music now and irritates the hell out of me.

You know what, you're right. I'll delete that, they are more Green Day and punk influenced. I was typing too fast, and they are actually talented.

Now you can re-read.

Grunge sucked and killed rock for a long time. Rock got too dark and distorted in the late 90s leading to the long dark age of 1997-2005 or so. Some good stuff has started to come out of the grunge plague since 2010 or so but you have to look for it with the demise of terrestrial radio.

That music still lives on and is as good as ever. What died off from grunge were all the singers, save Eddie Vedder. Dirt is a top 10 album of all time for me.
