Anyone else watching this?
Season 1 finale just released today. I went in with low expectations and was very happy with the outcome. Negan and Maggie are some of the stronger characters from TWD universe, and this worked really well.

This is also much more violent than TWD.
Overall, very strong.

Sitting at 84% / 81% on RT.
S2 confirmed.

I'm a sucker for TWD universe so I set my DVR to record it. I waited until I had about 5 episodes recorded to start watching. It is much better than I was expecting and binged it.

The scene where Negan asked if they brought an umbrella and then proceeded to kill the guy and spill his blood and guts on everyone below was freaking awesome. Typical old school Negan. They made a point, though, to show how that isn't his real personality and that he puts on a show to intimidate

i stopped watching the original walking dead midway around season 9 i believe....honestly it's hard to remember when i quit watching....

but how important is watching the rest of the original for this show? are there a few episodes we should watch that are necessary to get caught up for this one?

I'm surprised (but glad!) some of y'all have stuck with this show/universe as long as you have.

I was always a huge zombie movie geek. My favorite genre of "horror"/monster movies.
I finally had to give up on TWD when Rick didn't kill Negan when he had the chance to at the end of whatever that season was when they finally fought one on one after some big battle.
The show had gotten bad way before then but they was the last straw for me.

I honestly had never even heard of this newest spin off. But if Maggie is a main character, I may watch it on mute.

Same here! Is it necessary to go back and watch anything? Or is knowing the characters enough to just pick things up at this point?

Nope, as long as you were around for the intro of Negan & his Saviors back in the original (Season 6/7), and know that Maggie now has a son, that's all you need to know and I wouldn't say it's required to know all that history anyway.

It's also only 6 episodes, so it's a quick binge.

My guess is AMC gave them an ultimatum something like this, "we know the last 5 seasons of TWD sucked. You get 6 episodes to prove you can turn it around".

That they did imo. Great to see S2 is already greenlit. Would love you hear your thoughts after you all watch!

Yes, absolutely loved that scene. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is just such a perfect casting for Negan

I stopped watching TWD shortly after Negan arrived. Was he an evil SOB the rest of the series or did he somewhat become a sympathetic character and ally?

He's a complicated character. Arguably the most interesting of them all, for me

You're introduced to more sides of Negan in the rest of TWD and in this series

There is one episode in TWD which is focused on Negan's backstory. Would highly recommend watching that one. It was the best episode by far in the last 5 seasons
