Anyone catch it this weekend? Very solid first film from the Philippou brothers (apparently they did a lot of Youtube/TikTok stuff previously?).

Wouldn't say it was overly scary, and not a movie that has really stuck with me a day later, but extremely well acted, competent and satisfying horror flick.

Looking forward to what they do in the future.

Yeah I liked it a lot. Really great horror flick from A24. Strange, interesting, unique, very very solid film.

Pretty conventional plot line. Kids mess with something they shouldn't. But it was done very well.

Interested to see what these guys do next.

Movie was legit

Loved this movie. Saw it last night in a mostly packed theatre. The pace was perfect. It knew how to build tension and let it go and build it again. The 'montage' of the kids taking turns using the hand was sick. It was also surprisingly funny at times. Too many horror movies think that dread is the only emotion that can be conveyed in the movie, so it was nice to have to actual comedic moments to vary the mood.

The movie was clearly an allegory about drug use and addiction (dilated pupils, 'strapping in' to take the 'drug', a feeling of euphoria, etc.) and i think it did it in a pretty clever way.

I did wonder if Riley was actually being tortured though? Or if that was the spirits trying to manipulate Mia?


Overall, a nearly flawless debut film for these directors. Fun side note; the lead actress, Sophie Wilde, was incredible. I listened to an interview with the Directors who said that a studio wanted them to cast a more famous actor to play the role, but they declined to choose Sophia and as a result lost $1m of funding. Which is just incredible confidence and I'm glad they stuck to their guns!

We streamed this the other night. We liked it a lot.

Caught this last night on Netflix. Pretty good and paced well. Some totally dumb decisions, but then it's a focused on teenagers. Sufficiently creepy and watchable. Would recommend.
