Great movie but I don't care about comic books, so the movie stands on its own.
What about Batman Begins as an origin story? I really liked it when it came out and it seems to have aged well
It was a good movie. But, Phoenix's joker is not anywhere near the top of the podium of Ledgers. In fact, this is one of those times where you can 100% say Phoenix's joker doesn't exist without first having Ledger do what he did with the character.

Why could you 100% say that? I didn't think the 2 characters were similar at all.
My favorite super-villain origin story was "The Social Network."
