How is the average working actor surviving? Like my ex-workers daughter, Madison Davenport, who has been working steadily for the last 15 years since she was 10. She has had a rough go of it that last few years, but now there's absolutely no work.

Are they unemployment? Insurance? Etc.

They're striking, there is no unemployment for strikes, but you should be getting some kind of payment from the union.

However, the state of California now wants to change the law to pay strikers unemployment.

Do actors who aren't getting jobs get unemployment?

The unions have a lot of no interest or low interest loans available to their members. Huge stars have made donations to the strike fund.

As others have stated, there are funds available to members, but many writers/actors are also currently working side jobs. Also, a ton of actors already had primary/secondary jobs, and are just continuing to do those.

I'm wondering about the people in Hollywood that aren't actors or writers. Like, what about the cameraman or the lighting guy? It has to really suck for them, because they aren't really part of any of this, but they are also out of work.

They're going door-to-door selling Glamour Shots, ala Deb from Napoleon Dynamite...

During the last writers strike, Greg Daniels gave everyone on the Office staff. hair/makeup, etc. money.

Never count out California on taking the most stupid position possible on an issue.
