I dare say it. The world did not roll him, and he was arguably amongst the sharpest of any shed's tools.

I took my teenage sons to see The Impractical Jokers this Summer and Murr tells a story during the show about his wedding.

He booked Smashmouth to play his wedding as a surprise for his wife. Harwell was so drunk that he couldn't sing. He just stood there dancing and held the mic to the crowd like it was a singalong.

It got so bad that they had to call the cops and Harwell flipped off the crowd as they were leading him off the stage. Smashmouth broke up 2 weeks later. So the joke was Murr broke up Smashmouth.

He showed video and stills of the whole thing.

EDIT: I just read the article. They referred to Murr's wedding in it.

He had a 6 month old son that died with leukemia in 2001. I'm sure that took a toll and has contributed to his downward spiral.

I just found out today that Steve Harwell died.

SmashMouth was my favorite band in my A&M days - mid to late 90s. Walking on the Sun, All Star etc have been my company through so many tense and lonely days.

I got a change to see SM perform live at a free concert in 2009. I took my kids also. Then again in 2017. Harwell had an episode right after that in a different location.

Feel very sad today, like I lost an old close friend.
