I'm generally more interested in ideas than serialized stories, so I won't become too critical of tv when that's what most people are actively seeking out. Also, because I'm not in a catty mood, I won't nitpick either of these lists, but I personally think only three of those movies and one of these shows can be considered great, lasting works.fig96 said:
I feel like you have rather specific tastes
As PatAg just mentioned there's been tons of great original content on both tv and in theaters the last 10 years. If it's not your cup of tea that's fine, but that doesn't mean it wasn't great storytelling. He just listed a lot of great films, and in episodic shows we've had Breaking Bad, Fargo, Black Mirror, GoT, True Detective, Mad Men, The Wire, Sherlock, Severance, Ted Lasso, and tons of others.
I can't come close to articulating what's happened to fictional productions/creativity, but we're now in a spot in which the great stuff must go unheralded. Like I think anyone reading this would absolutely love Everybody Wants Some (Linklater), yet how many have seen it? How would you know to go see it when it came out, if it in fact was showing near you?
Anyway, not much more to say. I'll just patiently wait for the Guadagnino/Bret Easton Ellis production.
Edit: I'll add that I don't think I have too particular of tastes when it comes to movies: I'll watch nearly anything, in nearly any genre, as long as there's an inkling of desire. Shows are just too big of time commitments to invest much thought in when so much of the writing makes you roll your eyes.
