Has anyone else seen the Exorcist commercials during family broadcasting, like Sunday Night Football? It really irritates me. I get that there are people who love a good horror movie. I'm not one of them. But normal horror movies don't go so far on the commercials. And since I do so much streaming, I don't normally see commercials for it.

I'm surprised they're allowed to advertise so graphically during this type of programming. First of all, I don't want my kids to have to see it. Furthermore, the whole thing just makes me queasy to watch. I don't want to see a little girl on screen screaming in agony about not wanting to go to hell. Or see their skin peeling off because they're possessed. It's ridiculous.

Rant over.

Should have done a Toy Story version of it

That would probably be ok for kids

I'm with you. I wouldn't want my kiddo to see that either. We avoid watching live TV as much as possible, mostly because you never know what the commercials might be. I even give Aggie games a 20-minute or so head start so we can fast-forward. I think anyone who thinks it isn't an issue for kids to be exposed to horror like that, probably isn't a parent. This weekend, a local drive-in scheduled the Paw Patrol movie to be showing on the screen adjacent to the screen that was playing SAW in full view. Obviously this resulted in a lot of upset kids and now several moms are on a mission to find out who made that genius scheduling decision.

I'm with ya boss. This part even freaked me a little, and I was looking on my phone halfway paying attention.

Love horror movies but agree with you 100%.

Same here. It's a massive banner at the top of YouTube as well which my kids tend to mainly watch. I love horror movies, but don't want them seeing anything graphic like that

I haven't seen the commercial in question, but I know the original "Exorcist" advertising freaked me out as a kid. Just hearing "Tubular Bells" would make me uneasy.

I totally agree with the OP.

I watched Exorcist 1 & 2 at a sleepover when I was six. I loathe that genre.

And what's even worse... it has a review embargo until the day before so the studio knows its a stinker.

Instead of Barbenheimer its SAW Patrol X.

Yep, completely agree and had the same thought this weekend. We had to scramble to get our kid to not watch the TV when those commercials came on.

I mentioned this earlier in the year, but it's the same crap they pulled at the theater for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 by having the trailer for Stephen King's "The Boogieman 'play in front of it. They constantly pitch GOTG as a family and it has the most little-kid friendly characters of the MCU. Very frustrating as a parent.

Agreed.

Reminds me that I was mocked on TA after complaining about a trailer for Prometheus attached to The Avengers. I didn't particularly want my 7-year-old seeing a trailer to a prequel to a movie that scarred me back in 1979.

I turned toward my 11 year-old to tell him he might want to not watch this, and the blanket was already over his head. LOL.

Anyone remember during the 2010 NFL playoffs when they would show the trailer for Legion over and over again? The demon granny crawling around on the ceiling scared the **** out of my nephew.

Yup, mine are young enough that we can generally avoid it but it's been all over several platforms. And with most streaming coming with advertising these days it's almost impossible to avoid.

We had the tv's on all weekend for both college and NFL. I bet I saw bits of, or at least heard, this commercial a dozen times. It's bullsh**. My boys are teens so it's not like it's going to fuel nightmares at my house but frankly, I didn't even want to see this. Absolutely not appropriate during family programming.

But if we're being fair, I don't think most parents want to field questions on what Viagra is for either.

Further, getting your "HIV to undetectable" whatever TF that means. Seriously? During college football?

Disclaimer, I am still in rant mode over the Swifties inserted in to football. Damn you Kelce, do not want Taylor Swift in football. Bleh. /more Carrie Underwood please

I remember when my mom took me to see Cat in the Hat, we accidentally ended up at the next screen instead, showing Jeepers Creepers 2, was like 6 years old then, we only watched the few mins when the Creeper grabs the kid and goes flying. For years I kept wondering what that movie was cause I wanted to see the rest lol.

I turned out to be fine, but I love horror movies nowadays. Maybe Jeepers Creepers was the start lol

This is why today's kids are so soft.

My parents took little 4-year old me with them to see the original Exorcist at a freaking DRIVE-IN.

And look how I turned out.

They should balance it out with one of those Jesus commercials.

My parents somehow believed Gremlins was a kid movie when they rented it for me to watch by myself in their room while they watched something with my older brothers downstairs. I was like 5 years old... Gremlins would have been out for 4 years already. Different times!

Just tell them it's hard to explain, and get back to watching Max Johnson.

You going to lose sleep and stay up with my kids when they have nightmares?

I'm not opposed to them advertising, but it seems dumb to have movie ratings and the advertise directly to the group that can't see it because of the ratings.

We shouldn't have a 4 year old having to cover her eyes because the commercial scares her.

We've thrown everything out to chase money. Lots of eyeballs during a football game. That's all. And I agree.

My response was more directed towards a grown adult getting queasy from a fairly tame tv commercial.

Who said anything about me being a grown adult?

I'm willing to laugh at myself. That being said, I get queasy because I've got daughters and it makes me sick to my stomach thinking about my child feeling that kind of pain.

Do I deserve to be poked fun at? Eh, probably. Do I feel bad about that? Not even a little bit.

Any sort of advertising sales like this is going to be geared toward the target audience, and the demographics for Sunday Night Football are going to be overwhelmingly adult men. It's unfortunate, but it's where the money is, and they're always going to care about money over the sensibilities of parents when it comes to advertising.

I think the guy mentioning starting games early to fast forward through those kinds of ads probably has the best approach for you. It allows you to still watch the game while being able to avoid those kinds of ads. It's an extra step, yes, but unfortunately not everything is going to be catered to all ages.

Alternatively, Nickelodeon has done some broadcasts that are much more geared toward kids, so that might be an option as well.

Recording the game is a great option regardless. Wife was out shopping, called me, made me promise to not watch the Arkansas game until she got home. We were about an hour behind when we started. FF through commercials and halftime is the sh**.
