Just got sucked into a complete rewatch of the Ioan Gruffudd short films/movies. This is at least an every-other-year occurrence for me - I absolutely love the series and there simply isn't enough nautical fiction being made into film these days. Because it's such an enjoyable watch for me, I looked to see if there was a thread buried on this board about it, but couldn't find anything. As such, I consider it my duty to crank up the Hornblower hype machine and spread the word about this gem.

If there's a spare billionaire hiding on the e-board, any chance we can get a series revival with Gruffudd reprising his role as an older Captain Hornblower? Or a reboot with a completely new cast? Or both? Both would be cool. And while we're funding nautical passion projects, Master and Commander is sitting right there. Probably has a better ROI than buying Twitter, at least.

Anyways, the series largely holds up - some of the visuals are obviously dated but the acting is generally pretty good (and sometimes it's quite superb) and it scratches an itch that nothing else out there really does.

For those cultured individuals who have watched the show or read the books - who is your favorite side character and why is it Pellew?

Also who do you think pushed Captain Sawyer?

While there are no licensed streaming providers in the US, there are ways to view them online if you know where to look for movies, not that anyone here would be of such ill repute.

Personally, however, I'm still hanging on to an old DVD box set. Basically the only DVDs I still own. I think they may have released a Blu-Ray version at one point.

Finished Aubrey/Maturin. Fantastic. Maybe I'll check these books out. Heard they were pretty good.

I highly recommend the Alan Lewrie series written by Dewey Lambdin. I believe there are 25 novels in the series. It was a fun read and very comparable to the Aubrey/Maturin series, which I also enjoyed.
