I started watching Blue Eye Samurai on Netflix, and I have a question. I'm only one episode in. The
main character has blue eyes and is supposed to be the child of a Japanese woman and a European man.

If the blue-eyed samurai's mother is purely Japanese, is this possible?

Are you asking if kids can inherit traits from their fathers?

I believe OP is asking if Asians (Japanese specifically) can be blue eyed.

To answer your question, OP. Yes, there are more blue-eyed Asians than you think. It's still very rare, brown eyes usually take control in offspring.

If the mom carries a gene for blue eyes, then yes, it's possible.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking that blue eyes were a recessive gene that had to come from both parents and, I did not think the gene was usually in someone whose ancestors were solely from Japan. Just curious really.

I'm enjoying the show.

Also, don't watch with your kids.

This. A large number of people with brown eyes still carry the allele that can manifest as blue eyes if it gets matched with the similar allele in their partner. Do they still do the Punnet squares activity in school?

The mother doesn't even have to have the gene. Eye color is much more complex than dominate vs recessive.
