I don't know that this needed it's own thread but it's too good not to post. Full interview linked in the tweet is pretty interesting.

He's one strange dude. This is where entertainment is going though. Just think about all the huge movie stars (Costner, Spacey, etc) that have been featured in tv shows the last 5-10 years. That would've been unheard of in the early 2000s.

I wish it was a way more average show.

Quote:

Nicolas Cage didn't watch TV until his son made him watch '9-1-1: Lone Star'.

He found the series "magnificent" and now wants to act in TV shows instead.

Depending on the subject, I'd get down with this.

Hopefully it doesn't detract from the film Cage Renaissance. I've been loving his wild streak the past few years. Pretty much everything he's made since Pig has been absolutely insane. Willys Wonderland, Mandy, Color out of Space, etc. It would be a shame if he toned down his projects to start making TV.

Edit: insane meaning psychotic and also meaning really impressive.

He is someone I would live to sit down and watch a movie with. Any movie. He just knows so much and had so much experience and insight.

Ironically he would have been a great Walter White.

What other TV roles would he be perfect for if he was aware that TV existed?

I have not seen any of those movies and just watched all three trailers and oh man those look nuts. Not my usual go to movies but may have to give Willys Wonderland a try.

This wouldn't be a bad idea for a Netflix show similar to Mystery Science Theater. A few celebrities watch a film together and comment along the way.

he should do a Face Off tv series where he exchanges faces with someone new every episode.

Oh goodness, this looks terribly awesome. I've not seen it, but isn't this the exact premise as 5 Nights at Freddy's??

The Wikipedia summary is amazing lol:

It follows a quiet drifter who is tricked into cleaning up an abandoned family entertainment center as he is stalked by eight murderous animatronic characters possessed by the souls of a cannibalistic killer and his seven psychotic acolytes.

"Quiet drifter". Apparently Nick Cage does not have one line of dialogue in the entire movie which I can't decide if that is disappointing or potentially awesome.

To be fair, 9-1-1 Lone Star is so ridiculous it's funny.

Willy's Wonderland came out before the 5NaF movie but is obviously based on it.

It is….a masterpiece of terribly awesome in the most fun way!

Taylor Sheridan read this article and typed away furiously for 3 days and pumped out a ten episode first season for Cage's next work.

Can confirm.

My least favorite of his recent films. Did not like and would not recommend it to anyone.

I don't want to derail the thread by naming names and getting into silly side debates, but it's easy to imagine a couple detective or mystery shows that started out interesting but the characters fell flat, would have been more interesting with him. He's got enough range that it's not hard to see him in a number of roles. The biggest challenge would be getting critics to seriously review the show instead of just riffing on Nick Cage.

It's kind of funny that in 2023 he just watched BB and decided that TV could be worthwile, but his reasoning makes sense.

If Stallone can pull off Tulsa King then Nic Cage would be able to do it given the right show.

I think Cage would be more likely to be involved in a "prestige" type of tv show, vs something like Tulsa King.

It's about an Arizona Farmer who is upset about all the water being stolen from his land to fuel the rich foreign investors. Cage takes matters into his own hand to level the playing field, sometimes violently.

We call it...
