Don't know how many listen to him or have heard of him, but he regularly hosted shows on Deep Tracks on SiriusXM. I always liked listening to the music he would dig up. Longtime LA DJ, so he had a lot of stories to tell about the music and musicians as well.
As much as I can't stand it when people get all devastated when some random celebrity dies, WOW. This one his me pretty hard.
During the 4 years I lived in LA from 2004-2007, I spent many nights listening to Jim Ladd on 95.5 KLOS so I feel like I know him.
One of the most memorable shows on KLOS was when he had Rush drummer Neil Peart on to discuss his new book, Roadshow where he wrote about touring the USA and Europe riding his BMW GS1250. When they started, they thought Neil was only going to be able to stay for a short time but instead he wound up staying and talking to Jim for over an hour, maybe 2 hours.
As I've written about on this board, I got to see Styx with about 300 people at the Hard Rock Cafe at Universal Studios as part of Jim Ladd's Living Room. At that show, I met Jim Ladd, just to say thanks.
During late 2007 / early 2008, Jim Ladd was taking requests via MySpace and I would listen to his show over the Internet from my office in North Sydney. I did get an acknowledgement that HollywoodBQ was listening from Sydney, Australia.
The timing on this is strange for me because during Thanksgiving a few weeks ago, I introduced my youngest daughter to Jim Ladd, Headsets and The Last DJ.
I'd listened to Ladd on and off, since the mid-seventies... and he was the inspiration that compelled me to train in radio broadcasting. As a high-schooler two years (78-80) I trained as a DJ during which I earned my FCC license and had daily 2 hour shows and weekend 4 hour radio shows at the station, then KTOY 91.7 playing free form. I recall bringing albums from home, carrying them on the bus for the 12 mile trip to the station. My instructor would ride my ass for not sticking to the playlist.
