I'm late to the party on this one, but I couldn't find a thread. Was there one?

Just finished watching this at my parents', and we loved it. We were riveted throughout the entire movie, and we all had different theories about what might have happened.

We suspected her, a suicide made to look like she did it, and even the lawyer at one point.

Ultimately, I had a feeling it would end exactly how it did, so I wasn't exactly disappointed or surprised. But I still thought it was an excellent movie. I thought the kid was an amazing actor and kind of stole the movie.

Anyone seen this?

Loved the use of P.I.M.P.

Agree, good movie. The French probably have the most talented young writer-directors of any nation at this point, which is no surprise because a quality arts education is available to those in all classes there. Plus, they still have a strong literary culture. Supposedly even their contemporary genre books are a clear step or two above ours.

Just wish they had more money to work with there. Or not, because then you might not get projects like Stranger by the Lake, with its explicit and unsimulated gay sex. That'd probably start a riot, or more realistically performative boycotts, if ever shown on a multiplex screen in most US locales.

"Thank god the French film industry is poor so they can film literal gay porn and call it art"

Sorry, it's good art whether you like it or not. Besides, what good do huge budgets in American movies do anymore? Aside from making it easier for tasteless morons to skim money into their own pockets.

Finally saw this. Really enjoyed it. The story was simple, but the execution was just great. I thought the main actress did a very good job at being a bit emotionless and a blank slate that let the viewer project onto her.

I was pleased with the ruling. I thought the prosecutor was such a jerk. Everything he said he said with a twist towards convicting her. He was so sure and arrogant. At the end when Daniel testifies and he reminds the jury that it is not proof, I screamed at the TV "Literally nothing you have presented the ENTIRE CASE has been proof you arse!" All they had was very loose theories.

Also in the recording they played I thought she cam out looking better. Everything she said was logical and correct and he was the one overly emotional. She called him on his sheet.

I personally don't think she did it, but even if she did, there was no where near enough evidence to convict her.

I had commented on an earlier post. Thumbs up on the movie.
Really enjoyed the movie - however my one nitpick, the actor who played the boy was too young. They should have used an older actor like a teenager. The boy's dialog and how the adults spoke to him was more adult-like than child-like. That said, the young actor was terrific and did a tremendous job.

This movie has great acting but is so boring, it's my own fault for thinking this more of a mystery than it really was.
