So this got rave reviews out of the fall festival circuit - like, emphatically and seemingly unanimously so - and now we finally have the first teaser trailer and a release date. From Richard Linklater - writer/director of Dazed and Confused, Everybody Wants Some, Boyhood, Bernie, School of Rock, and the Before trilogy - with Glen Powell in a role everyone is saying solidifies his status as a bonafide star.

Not to mention it was shot in Texas and is inspired by a true story/Texas Monthly article wherein "a hit man meets his match in a client who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight, and mixed-up identities."

The only problem is Netflix won the bidding war, so it will only see a super limited theatrical release, if it sees one at all. Still, I couldn't be more excited...

I remember randomly reading about this a while back when I was looking at Linklater's imdb to see if he had anything in the works.
Big fan of Powell as an actor...not enough to see the "one for them" movies, but all about this movie.

HIT MAN is Richard Linklater’s film with the most mass appeal since SCHOOL OF ROCK. It’s also one of his best.

So so so much fun! Glen Powell is a never-ending well of charisma, Adria Arjona really shows out, and the whole thing is so playful, sexy, and unpredictable.

Saw it Tuesday at the Lake Highlands Alamo Drafthouse and loved it. It was funny throughout and I really enjoyed how it built towards the conclusion.

Former Lake Highlands High School great, Evan Holtzman, is in the movie quite a bit i believe, haven't seen it yet.

It's a turn your brain off, somewhat entertaining movie. I'm not quite sure how it has a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes other than it's inoffensive. It just kinda feels like a mediocre rom-com. There's a lot of cringeworthy scenes, some not-so-great acting, an (IMO) unlikeable female lead, and a kinda bizarre ending.

I'd say it's the perfect bored on the weekend Netflix movie, but I would not pay to see it.

Just finished it. Really enjoyed especially as it got deeper. Fascinating to see Powell basically play a dozen characters and swap between them. It was a little more complex and less comical than Bernie but still light for a crime movie. Will definitely watch again.
