One day a week for now, but he's going to EP it too.

Will be the first time that show has produced an ounce of funny since he left

Some of their Indecision coverage when he was hosting is comedy gold.

John Stewart era TDS produce such great talent. Not sure it will live up to what it once was, but I'll give it a go.

If he can improve the correspondent talent to what it once was, that alone would lift this back to the stratosphere.

Rotating hosts will be interesting. I wonder what it will do to viewership. I could see Monday being a big audience and then a big drop off the rest of the week, even if the guest hosts are great.
Thanks and gig'em

Haven't they been rotating hosts since Trevor Noah left? Every painfully unfunny commercial I see is announcing a new temporary host

Even if it's just for one week, he needs to put the band back together and get Carrell and Colbert and Mo Rocca and the rest to come on.

I got to meet Rob Riggle in 2007 or so when he was in Texas doing a piece for the Daily Show. Great guy.

There's no way colbert goes back to being a right wing caricature and no way he goes back down to the level of correspondent imo. He was funny before because people didn't know his left tendencies

I look forward to him delivering a right wing jab and blankly staring at the camera for 15-20 seconds.

If you didn't know his left tendencies before, I don't think you ever got the joke.

Conservatives used to enjoy going on his show because despite his leanings, he always let them talk and make their points. It was an honest debate. I remember at times he would even shush his crowd if they tried to impact that, And he had the ability to distill mostly liberal points of view to a simple but effective argument better than almost anyone. That's what I'm looking forward to, some of those interviews were really good.

I understand that he was playing a character, but it's not like I had any idea of his personal convictions because why tf would I? I don't believe he will believably be able to play that character anymore after trump and covid ridiculousness because now EVERYONE knows his personal convictions. It's not that hard of a concept to grasp.

Stewart is the goat talk show host of the last 15 or whatever years.

The usual suspects will be here soon enough to mock us all for getting our "news" from Jon Stewart, but what you describe is exactly what makes him worth watching. It's why I tune in o him and the likes of Bill Maher - because they have actual, honest conversations/debates with conservatives, which makes for some of the best political discourse on TV.

After Stewart retired I gave Trevor Noah a few months, but eventually bailed and haven't watched The Daily Show since (though I've seen plenty of clips and segments online over the years). Now? I can't wait for Monday nights again.

Daily Show / Colbert Report was my favorite block of TV maybe ever.

Lest you think I was making it up on conservatives liking his platform.

What makes Stewart great is that he knows he's making entertainment. There is "news" and politics present, but I never felt he lost sight of the fact he's trying to make something funny. There's a balance you need to strike to keep your whole audience. The left wasn't safe from him either, everyone was a target for the show. No one has has figured that out since he left. John Oliver did a decent job for a while with that angle but he lost his way from there and turned his show into something I didn't find entertaining anymore. Maher is still a lefty but he's become very skeptical of what the left has become, but he's unable to call things out like Stewart can, he's too angry, frustrated, and disenfranchised at this point.

Happy to see Jon Stewart at the desk again, but they should have just given the gig to Roy Woods Jr. instead of all this back and forth.

Never really watched the show but knew that Carrell was on it. Did he go directly to "The Office" from there?
You're from down South,

Yep, while ignoring the complete and utter sh** show that is the Biden administration and left winged governors and mayors all across the country.

All though he did show balls by breaking away from the ridiculous left winged narrative that Covid came from a wet market (lololol), so maybe he has changed for the better and may become more of a Bill Maher type character that calls out the out of control ridiculousness of the modern left and tries his best to actually think on his own?

It was almost like they intentionally used to bring in lightweights to debate John Stewart. And he would always have well planned "gotcha" curveballs to blindside them with...making it somewhat of a stacked debate imo. I'd like to see him debate guys like Matt Walsh and Ben Shapiro, personally. Hope we all agree those would be some pretty solid debates, no matter which side you fall on or whether you can stand either of those guys or not. They are pretty much expert level debaters.

Similarly, and I know liberals will disagree here, Maher used to almost always stack the show so it would be 3 liberals on 1 conservative. I used to watch the show pretty religiously and am not just pulling that out of my @ss. Not sure if he still does this, but I have noticed Bill Maher calling out the left much more than he used to...as the mainstream left has simply gotten to insane for him.

Stewart was the only one I really remember being willing to hold both democrats and republicans feet to the fire.
He obviously did more Republican segments, and you can decide for yourself why that might be, but it was definitely never a one sided show.
And his work with the 9/11 commission should be even more of an example of that.

At the end of the day, its a comedy show, and he is funny and well suited to it.
