Jurassic park for me.
Nah I just watched the 4K version of that and technically speaking the special effects are a real letdown nowadays on a large screen. Probably ok on a 55" 1080 screen.
Bs, they played this in theaters a few years ago and it was still just as amazing as in 94
Calling someone's opinion bs? I guess yours is bs too then since you are making an apples to oranges comparison here since you are talking about a cinema vs what anybody at home has access to buy/watch.
If you don't believe me then watch the 4K release on a large oled screen. I love the movie but it technically is now very underwhelming.
Good entry. T2 and Robocop (1987) below your post, hold up very well.Brian Earl Spilner said:
No mention of T2 yet?

From recent personal experience, this movie did not age well. Neither did Bram Strokers Dracula.
Shameful. Ban worthy.
The CGI in the original Avatar still looks better than any CGI film made today...other than Avatar's sequel.Teslag said:
Just realized this morning that Apollo 23 is turning 30 years old next hear. I can still watch this movie and none of it feels like an "old" movie. Even if it were released today as a movie it would still be fantastic.
What are some others?
Yeah I think the OP should have clarifed FX driven because a film like The Shawshank Redemption has very few (if any) special effects shots so as an incredible film of course it holds up well.YouBet said:
Not sure I understand the rules of this thread.
A good movie is a good movie regardless of when it was made.
If we are talking about FX driven movies then I see the point of the thread.
My only issue with this movie now is as a kid, I didn't realize the significance of this scene:Urban Ag said:
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
The Empire Strikes Back
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Alien and Aliens
He was banging his friend's teenage daughter, not something you catch as a youngster. Granted, such January-December romances were perfectly acceptable in 1936 because of the Depression.Quote:
- Indiana: Hello, Marion.
- Marion: Indiana Jones. I always knew some day you'd come walking back through my door. I never doubted that. Something made it inevitable. So, what are you doing here in Nepal?
- Indiana: I need one of the pieces your father collected.
- [Marion surprises him with a right cross to the jaw]
- Marion: I've learned to hate you in the last ten years!
- Indiana: I never meant to hurt you.
- Marion: I was a child. I was in love. It was wrong and you knew it!
- Indiana: You knew what you were doing.
- Marion: Now I do. This is my place. Get out!
I think somebody posted a story about it on the Entertainment board. George Lucas' original script said that she was something like 13-14 years old at the time and Spielberg correctly changed it to be a lot more vague.Sethtevious said:My only issue with this movie now is as a kid, I didn't realize the significance of this scene:Urban Ag said:

Oh, my 14 year old self definitely caught that implication.Sethtevious said:My only issue with this movie now is as a kid, I didn't realize the significance of this scene:Urban Ag said:

This is one area where 4K has hurt movies, IMO. The first time I watched the 4K versions of The Lord of the Rings movies, I noticed flaws in the special effects that I never noticed watching lower res versions. I see the same thing in other 4K movies.Madmarttigan said:
LOTR is now 20 years old as well and still looks fantastic. There is some spotty cgi on Ents, cave trolls and maybe gollum but so much of it was shot with realistic effects that it will hold up for a long time imo.
Also for an 80s sci fi I think aliens holds up damn well.

Don't blame your personal failures on Jack Burton.
