Hard to believe Eddie is not in the Country Hall of Fame as Singer & Song Writer.

LOL yea that song gets played a ton but it's not even his best song. Don't get me wrong that's a good tune but he had a lot of great songs.

Love me some Eddie Rabbit. We wore out his albums and 8 tracks driving across Texas when I was a kid and I never stopped listening to him. Does seem pretty odd as he has so many fantastic songs. Maybe his 20 year career was just too short...

Rabbitt was huge in the late '70s through the entire 1980s. But he's basically been forgotten.

Not only a great songwriter but a great performing artist as well. I also loved his duets with Crystal Gayle.

That was a great era for country music in movies. Smokey and the Bandit movies, Every Which Way But Loose, Urban Cowboy, Coal Miner's Daughter, etc.

Eddie Rabbitt was too sick to headline the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo back in 1983. Rodeo had to scramble and find a replacement and best they could do was settle for an up and coming country singer that could put his band together at the last minute and drive to Houston. That singer, George Strait, has always thanked Eddie for that opportunity.

It always brings a smile to my face when I hear his music come on.

Just seeing this thread made me smile.

He's so under appreciated.

Speaking of Rabbitt the writer, he co-wrote what I think is one of the best songs Elvis ever recorded -- Kentucky Rain.

He also wrote Pure Love, which was Ronnie Milsap's first #1 record.

Speaking of Rabbitt the recording artist, I preferred his earlier less pop-tinged stuff, particularly his debut album 'Eddie Rabitt' which contained the single Forgive and Forget.

I saw him live at Billy Bob's Texas in Ft. Worth about 40 years. The place was packed and he put on a great show.

This a good read on Eddie. The whole article worth a read.

https://www.savingcountrymusic.com/paying-a-visit-to-eddie-rabbitt/

"I love a rainy night, and I'm driving my life away. And it's all the fault of country music legend Eddie Rabbitt. With an incredible twenty #1 songs, and 34 total Top 10 hitsmost of which he wrote himselfEddie Rabbitt was one of the biggest and most influential country artists of the late '70s and throughout the '80s.

Eddie Rabbitt's career wasn't just accomplished, it was downright Hall of Fame worthy. But you almost never hear Eddie Rabbitt's name brought up in the context of the Hall of Fame. In fact, you barely ever hear the name of Eddie Rabbitt in country music at all these days.

Eddie Rabbitt died in Nashville on May 7th, 1998 from lung Cancer at the age of 56. But nobody reported on the passing of Rabbitt when it happened at the request of his family. It wasn't until after the burial that the word got out. Not even his agent knew, nor anyone else beyond his family. The public didn't even know Rabbitt had part of his lung removed, and had been diagnosed as terminal."
