John Wick director Chad Stahelski is currently developing a reboot of the epic fantasy action film Highlander, and Henry Cavill is set to take on the lead role. The movie has been in development for years, but it's actually getting really close to going into production.

Cavill recently talked about the project during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He shared how big of a fan his is of the franchise and then said that the script for the film is "extraordinary" and that the movie will take some "big swings."

I've always liked the first one as a guilty pleasure. And I love the mythology and premise behind the movie. The extended cut does add a little more background to McCloud's character that I personally liked.

I didn't watch the 2nd one, heard it was ***** I didn't mind the one featuring Adrian Paul from The Highlander tv show.

The 2nd one is absolute dog-sh**. I actually saw that in the theater. It was the first (and maybe only??) movie I have walked out on.

Edit: and I liked the first one. The special effects do not hold up anymore, but it's still entertaining. Has one of the best protagonists out there.

Stick to the first one. If you like that, jump to the TV show.

The TV show is fun 90s nostalgia, very much like Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The first movie definitely is. The sequels have no regard for continuity. But who knows, I might check them out again sometime to see if I like them any better.

Agree the first movie & the series are the only ones worth watching.

I recall fondly seeing Von Erich rivals Michael PS Hayes and the Fabulous Freebirds opening the first movie when MacLeod is at a wrestling match.

IMO the first movie is the only one worth watching. As a stand alone it is good. The first one closed out all the loose ends and it was like they never thought there'd be a sequel and they just had to pull stuff out of their ass.

The series was OK. It had it's moments.

Which is a little odd, since the Freebirds largely wrestled in the South. They had a brief stint in the WWF in 1984, which I think would be their only opportunity to have wrestled in Madison Square Garden.

The original highlander won an academy award for greatest movie of all time.

I unabashedly love and abashedly quote Highlander Endgame.

The disappointment I felt as a kid after bringing home Highlander II from the video store is a core memory of my childhood that still haunts me.

Wasn't the TV show supposed to be before the first movie? I have no idea on timeline with that.

Should start a thread. Worst sequels of all time.

Loved the first - even with the Spaniard having a scottish accent and the Highlander from Scotland having a Dutch(??) accent.

I saw the second at a dollar theater and literally wanted my money back. Heard a podcast about it a while back...the first one they lucked into. Good script - Sean Connery, Christopher Lambert fresh off Tarzan, great soundtrack. Producers were ultra sketchy - took em down to South America somewhere to film the second on the cheap.

Almost same issue as with Game of Thrones - amazing material to begin with that I have struggled to watch again because the follow up was so bad.

I very much enjoy the first one and love the lore. I always thought this was the type of universe that could benefit greatly from a reboot.

At least with this universe a reboot makes sense simply because you could tell untold numbers of stories from different people vying to be the one.

Loved the first one although I haven't seen it in a couple of decades. I forgot Queen is in soundtrack. What a duo with Flash Gordon and Highlander both having Queen. I may have to watch this again.

Speaking of Queen, I had a debate with my daughter on quality of pop/rock singers between now and the "old days". I submitted this for my example:

She didn't admit defeat, but deep down we both know I won.

Lol. I appreciate you essentially launching a nuke at her as your opening salvo in the argument. There is just no comeback to this.

Queen was incredible. I wish I could have seen them in concert.
