I've got a punk playlist that I usually play on Friday to kick off the weekend, and always looking for new ones, so let's see what you've got. Any subgenre is welcome: skate, street, ska, pop, hardcore, old, new, whatever, just post some great songs.

I'll kick it off with a few of my stalwarts, mostly from the Warped Tour years

Holiday in Cambodia - one of my favorites. Dead Kennedys also have THE best cover of I Fought The Law.

I noticed your Bluey thread right after posting this (drew my eye because we've started the show with my toddler) and was like, may as well be a batsignal

Excited about seeing Rancid for the first time. And Out Come the Wolves still a staple in this house.

I'm not even a big punk guy, but "...And Out Come The Wolves" is one of the most listenable albums out there in my opinion, any genre. No skips. I can have it on and before I know it's played 3-4 times through with no thought at all.

Without question. Time Bomb might be most skankable song of all time. They are playing with NOFX in there last show in LA in October. No chance I'm missing it.

For those Rancid and NOFX fans out there who also aren't scared of mariachi:

I always considered The Specials ska music and not punk.

What about the following?

The Stranglers
Joy Division
The Jam

I was in boarding school in the UK from 1979 - 1982. Fascinating time for music there.

I was pretty much a metal kid in high school and dabbled in punk and the various iterations...me and friends were into skateboards etc so that got us into the thrash metal direction into stuff like Black Flag and Suicidal Tendencies and DRI...but what I like about punk as a genre is that there's so many varieties and I find stuff I like in any direction. It's almost like...hey if you wanna call yourself "punk" you can almost sound like anything, musically. That feels like a punk attitude.

Anyway, here's Wonderwall.

Just kidding. Heard this band on SXM Faction Punk last summer/fall and have become a teeny bit obsessed and I have no idea why

OP welcomed any sub genre of punk like ska, but I'd agree the Specials are definitely not punk.

Early Joy Division like "No Love Lost" definitely sounds punk. Warsaw was what the called themselves when their music sounded more punk. Believe they were widely known to be a "post punk" band. Either way, I'm a huge fan of Joy Division.

Same. Joy Division was good. Several bands back then started out with a borderline punk sound, and I wished they had stayed that way - The Cure, Blondie, and yeah, Joy Division too

There's also a great Australian Punk outfit called Cosmic Psychos that are great, especially the early stuff. Probably a band most havent heard of but huge influenced on a lot of artists (i.e. Buzz Melvin, Adam Jones Tool, etc.). Got a good documentary called Blokes You Can Trust. Quintessential Aussie.

I have to post live versions, because album recordings just aren't the same:

One of my favorite Green Day songs to this day, and always a blast when they pull it out:

And my favorite from Kerplunk!:

I have to throw in some Against Me! One of my favorite bands and always a blast to go see live because it's usually in a room filled with several hundred actual fans all singing to every word:

May be my favorite song about what punk rock should be:

Love when any band does acoustic versions of songs, especially Against Me:

They are ska, but they definitely have punk in their sound

Mentioned in the OP, ska is fine for this thread. I know there are stylistic differences, but there's also a ton of crossover, so I always see them as one and the same

Joy Division wanted to emulate The Sex Pistols and Clash, and Peter Hook first wrote many songs with heavy guitar and traditional punk sound. Producer Martin Hannett was the one that watered it down and created the sound now known as Joy Division. So no, not traditional 80's punk but interesting enough that is where the influence came from.

My favorites, and saw most live at one point or another, including DKs a couple months ago and will see SxDx and Bad Religion in April.

Agent Orange
Social Distortion
Minor Threat
Dead Kennedys
Fear
Adolescents
GBH
MDC
Misfits
Suicidal Tendencies

There are some other contemporary bands like X-ray Specs, The Cramps and even Dead Milkmen that i like but dont put in the same category. The ever changing definition of punk music is a discussion for another day though.

And old school means you listened on these. Have some mixtapes that are 40 years old and i still havent figured out all the lyrics on some of the songs. "Fish in a Pool" by the Electric Dead anyone?
