The guy has been a (fairly)big name in Hollywood, spanning decades now.

What tier would you slot him in?

In his prime in the right roles he was fantastic. Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction, Urban Cowboy. He has a swagger and coolness that very few can pull off as authentic.

Most of his other roles I never was blown away by and he just seems miscast to me.

This.

Between Welcome Back Kotter, Grease, Urban Cowboy, and Saturday Night Fever all in a short time, he was huge. And these are movies that affected pop culture at the time.

He's talented. I just don't know what role is right for him now.

He's good at making Santa seem very creepy. That can't be easy to pull off.

He was a staple of movies I saw when I was a tween/late elementary through junior high years. Then I don't really remember anything he was in until well after I had left A&M, movies like Face/Off and Broken Arrow.

I think his swagger and coolness really showed in Get Shorty.

Agree with this. Would also add that in Phenomenon, he showed a different set of skills. Really enjoyed that versatility.

Sadly as he's continued to have work done to his face, I've been too distracted to even get into the acting. I think it was Old Dogs where he looked like a cartoon character

Honestly always thought he was a very average actor….but his charisma and ability to make his characters fun more than made up for it….

I love all of his movies and roles but he's just ok as an actor. I think he does a great job but none of his roles make me go WOW WHAT A DISPLAY OF ACTING EXCELLENCE! But I like him.

He is a barely passable actor who has a lot of charisma that makes the parts he plays entertaining to watch.

I don't know about his acting chops, but he may be the most talented of his generation just due to Grease and Saturday Night Fever - throw in Pulp Fiction as well.

Which is a more iconic signature move -- Travolta's dancing, Cruise's running or Pacino's unnecessarily raised voice?

He was also good roles outside the movies already mentioned in Civil Action, Thin Red Line, Look who's talking, Michael, Primary Colors, Carrie & Blow Out.
