My favorite Sinead O'Connor song was a Prince cover.
That's the only song anyone knows.

Janes Addiction helped change the landscape of rock music altogether. They predated grunge, but to me the first guitar driven alternative rock to have a major impact. Nearly all the alternative bands of the time had a synth as one of the major instruments. They were pioneers. They were weird. But by every musical definition they were rock.

Frampton and Ozzy for sure. Dave Mathews...maybe for the late 90's wore-khakis-but-smoked-weed crowd. Jane's Addiction and Foreigner possible...

but the rest? no way.

And no Maiden, again.

I haven't been there yet, but if it's anything like the Country Music HOF, it's still a really cool museum, regardless of how off-base they are with the selections.

If all you know of Sinead is that one song, then you weren't paying attention. Not even her best.

But give me Foreigner, Ozzy, and Oasis from that list.

Kool & the Gang have contributed to the music pantheon, as have others. But RRHOF? nah. Some other HOF.

Sinead O'Connor had one good song in her entire career and called the US Music Industry racist. Other than the one song the only thing of note she has done in her career is her activism. She should have no place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
It's just that they've started to run out of "1st ballot"-type artist, and now it's down to the B-team.

Love Oasis, Janes (saw on the Ritual tour twice, unbelievable), etc, but should they be alongside The Beatles, Zeppelin, Metallica, Green Day, even the Foos (all stadium acts)? The fact that Foreigner is now a nominee despite being eligible for over 20 years should tell you everything you need to know.

This trend will continue in the coming years, as rock started to wane in the early 2000s, and no great (stadium) rock bands appearing since.

Can't say I blame the HOF, as they want to stay somewhat relevant, and in the public eye. Letting rap and Country artist in is a way to keep the thing going...not that I like it at all.

I thought about replying to that one and didn't. Not everyone is from the 90's.

Also it's time for Bach.
Peter Schickele (aka P.D.Q. Bach) passed away recently. Professor Schickele is just as deserving as some nominees, and would make as much sense as Sinead in the RRHOF.

We played a PDQ Bach piece in HS band back in the 80s. We were handed a bunch of kazoos to play.

I don't think you need to be a stadium act in order to get there. Stevie Ray Vaughn got in and he still played clubs when he died (not that I got to see it).

The influence a band had should make a difference. If you were a stadium act - you probably did have influence. At the same time, I'm hoping the backstreet boys never make it in. JA was alternative guitar rock before there was successful alternative guitar rock. Because I listened to them, I was searching for that kind of music when grunge came out.

I would put the Pixies in the same space even though I really didn't get into them until way later. Rock music of the 90s wouldn't be the same without them.

I had to look it up though - Sinead had quite a few albums under her belt. I had her big one and liked it a lot. Struggle to say that she changed rock music in any way, but maybe that because I wasn't that close to her brand of rock music.

To be fair I never smoked weed while wearing khakis…
